Our Sin and God's Grace
Part 1: "The Original Sin"
| | |
This Sunday we kick off Lent with the first in a 4-part Sermon Series entitled “Our Sin and God’s Grace.” We start by focusing on what the story of Adam and Eve has to tell us about the origin of sin. [Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7]
What was the true nature of their sin? What does that tell us about our own inclination to sin? What should we do about it?
Come on Sunday and find out!
Sermons in this series:
Our Sin and God’s Grace
February 22 Part 1: "The Original Sin" [Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7 – Adam and Eve’s disobedience]
March 1 Youth Sunday
March 8 Part 2: “The Sin of Testing” [Exodus 17:1-7 – The Israelites grumble and God provides]
March 15 Part 3: “The Sin of Blindness” [John 9:1-41 -- Jesus cures the man born blind]
March 22 Part 4: “The Cure for Sin” [John 11:1-45 – Jesus raises Lazarus]

2026 Lenten Series Offered at SSPC
Seeking to find meditative, reflective silence and deeper connection with God in your spiritual life?
Join Pastors Lisa Chase and Don Wahlig for a meaningful four-week Lenten Series beginning Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 6 – 7 pm in the Chapel.
This series is designed as an in-person experience, as it is highly participatory and invites attendees into spiritual practices that will foster a deeper experience of God in their faith journeys. Together, we will explore sacred disciplines, such as Lectio Divina, Meditative Prayer, and discernment practices that deepen our ability to notice and listen to God.
Through guided reflections, shared conversation and spiritual exercises, we will learn how to apply discernment in everyday life and cultivate awareness, clarity, and faithful responses throughout the Lenten season and beyond within a supportive, prayerful community. Hope to see you there! The dates are March 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 6-7:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!
CE and young leaders from SSPC started a new group for young adults over 18. Watch for new events being planned! For more information, please contact Ty Headley. The group is currently studying from the Book of Acts.
Laundry Ministry Update
The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their new ministry here at the church, the Laundry Ministry. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, in the laundry basket and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats. The weather has curtailed our efforts, but we will be back at it soon. Thanks for the prayers and quarters!
Storyboard Ministry
The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.
We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to everyone who continues to add requests. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is now in place beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Short Stories
A group of us are writing a series of short stories reflecting the precious and tender work of a minister of word and sacrament. Please find the latest installment on the bulletin board. Any questions about this, please reach out to Pastor Lisa. If you would like to share something funny, meaningful, a God-sighting, please let me know. And let me know what you think! Warm regards- Lisa

Earth Care
Toilet paper has traditionally been made from trees from Canada and Brazil. More than 1 billion gallons of water and 1.6 million trees could be saved if every American used one roll of toilet paper made from recycled content instead of forest trees. Pulp made from trees is treated with chlorine that can harm the environment.

34th YEAR ROAR TEAM REPORT - FEBRUARY 2026
Eighteen members and friends of SSPC spent the week of Monday, February 02 through Friday, February 06, 2026, cleaning and repairing manufactured homes in the Maryland Oaks Crossing (MOC) community in Tallahassee, Florida. Initially, we were to work with Big Bend Habitat For Humanity building a new home, but their lack of planning left us with nothing to do. Fortunately, Habitat put us in contact with Good New’s Outreach, Inc., an organization that owns and operates MOC. God never fails to guide us to where we are needed to serve our brothers and sisters in need.
Good News Outreach provides affordable transitional housing for at-risk families with dependent children at MOC. They provide counseling, tutoring, life skills classes, and a monthly food pantry, to mention a few services available to residents. We worked with Kevin, the community maintenance supervisor who coordinated our efforts through the week.
We worked on two homes accomplishing the following items:
- Cleaned all parts of both homes, including mold and mildew.
- Thoroughly cleaned two electric ranges and a refrigerator
- Removed, cleaned and reinstalled blades from ceiling fans, glass globes from all light fixtures, and all electrical device plates in both units.
- Repaired a large hole in the floor in one unit.
- Painted the entire interior of both units, including all the doors.
- Removed the kitchen sink cabinet and countertop and installed new cabinets and countertop in one unit.
- Removed and reinstalled interior storm windows so the window jambs could be painted.
- Rebuilt two back door decks and steps.
- Replaced rotted deck boards on a third of the front deck at one unit and the entire front deck on the second unit.
The average age of the Team is 77 to78 years young. Neither knee replacements, heart issues, asthma, spinal surgeries or other health issues could prevent this group from being the hands and feet of our Lord and Saviour serving others in His name. The Team is thankful for the prayers of the Congregation as we completed a safe and productive work week.

Feed My Starving Children
According to UNICEF about 13,000 children under the age of five die every day, with malnutrition being a major underlying factor in these premature deaths.
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s starving children. With God’s help they work together with local organizations and ministries to end hunger. They have developed a process they call “Mobil Pack” that allows them to pack, label and box thousands of meals in a weekend.
Locally, the Turning Point Church Mechanicsburg is hosting a Mobil Pack operation on the weekend of March 13-15. Their goal is to raise $65,000 and pack over 200,000 meals.
The Mission Committee is recruiting a team to volunteer on Friday March 13th for either the 2-4 PM or the 6-8 PM shift. Not all work requires standing. While donations are welcome, they are not required.
Early volunteer registration begins on February 9th. If you’re interested, please send an email to Fred Shatto at fredshatto@gmail.com and indicate which shift you can volunteer. This is a great event and fun for people to do together. I hope you can join us.
Fred Shatto
New Hope Ministries
New Hope Ministries can use the following items for February: pasta noodles (anything EXCEPT spaghetti), pasta sauce, and dish detergent. Items can be placed in the bin outside the Chapel. Thank you very much!

Thank you for praying for me these past 4 years. It's been a long struggle but I'm now in remission for the last 28 months. I must still take chemo every 3 weeks, but it's a small price to pay. Our Lord has blessed me and my church family makes a difference in my life. In God we trust. -Elizabeth Hall-Bentzel
Thank you SSPC Church Family,
Randall and I are deeply grateful for the kind thoughts, prayers and condolences everyone shared with us through cards, emails, texts and conversations following Randall's mother's death. Louise was an amazing woman of faith, and we will cherish her memory always.
We felt the love and support of our SSPC church family, and it has meant more to us than words can express. Thank you, Randall and Pastor Lisa Chase
Thanks to the SSPC members that prayed, called, emailed or sent cards during my recent hip surgery recovery.
