“When God Has the Last Laugh"

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

“When God Has the Last Laugh”

(Genesis 18:1–15; Genesis 21:1–7)

There is an old saying:

"If you want to make God laugh, tell God your plans."

Most of us know exactly what that feels like. We set plans for our lives, we tell God about them, we ask God to bless them—and then things change. We wait, and we wait: for a child, for a new career, for a relationship.

What is even more difficult is when God seems to have promised the very thing we desire. God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son in their old age. Sarah, who was most likely post-menopausal, laughed when she heard the visitors tell Abraham that they would have a son within a year. (I bet it was more of a “snort!”)

God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah seemed impossible. Yet, in God’s perfect timing, Isaac was born.

Their story reminds us that God’s promises are never empty words; they are fulfilled with purpose. While God’s promises are broad enough to bless nations and generations, they are also deeply personal, speaking into the unique circumstances of our lives.

Here’s the tension: what we think God has promised us may not be what God truly intends for us. It is God’s plan that we are to follow, not our own. What we can count on with God’s promises are these: God loves us, will never abandon us, and redeems us through his Son, Jesus Christ.

Join us on Sunday for our single outdoor service at 11:00 am and then stay for the church-wide picnic that follows. (Please sign up on Realm if you have not already done so or sign up in the Gathering Place.) And remember to bring a lawn chair!

See you on Sunday,

Pastor Lisa

Fall Faire - October 24, 2026

Fall Faire will be held Saturday, October 24th, from 8 am – 1 pm. All the fan favorites – Apple Dumplings, Sticky Buns, White Elephant, Christmas Shoppe, Soups, Toys, Children’s Activities, Boutique and more – will be there! Marketing materials will be available to take to area businesses after June 1st.

This year, the Fall Faire committee – a dedicated group of wonderful Deacons, are looking for beautiful items to place and sell in the Boutique area. If you are looking to downsize, or you have things you just need to get rid of, we’d love to take a look at any accessory items and furniture, such as lamps, side tables, small sofas, paintings, chairs – and have first dibs on what you want to get rid of before you do anything else with them. Please contact Pastor Lisa, who will then schedule with the FF team to come and look at the items first. Please note that for the White Elephant section, we are no longer taking glassware or small appliances. The volunteer assignment board will be up August 8th, and we will begin taking donations the first week of September.

Donation Update - Thanks to the blessings of our congregation, we have now raised over $1,000, in quarters! We have handed out hundreds of dollars of gift cards and our ministry continues!

Storyboard Ministry

The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Earth Care - Did you know?

Common cat litter is sodium bentonite which is strip mined; about 5 billion pounds/year. one cat goes through about 28 pounds of litter/month [336 lbs/yr]. None of this breaks down when discarded. Cost is $180-$480 for one cat. Litter is a multi-billion dollar industry; a recurring product whose useful life is measured in days and afterlife measured in centuries.
