WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Have you ever laid awake at night, worrying about stuff — important stuff, some of which you can do some thing about, and some of which is completely out of your control? Jacob had a night like that! He wrestled, with his fears, with the consequences of his actions, with God! As we consider this story, we find ways forward for our own conflicted anxieties and worries! 

The Rev. Dr. David Roquemore, a retired Presbyterian pastor, is preaching this week and leading us through this story. Join us, in person or online!

Special Drive for Bountiful Blessings during VBS, August 3-7, 2026

Beginning August 2nd – August 16th, we are taking up a collection of items for Bountiful Blessings, Inc. They need the following NEW items: Shampoos, Conditioners, Body Wash, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Dishwashing Detergent, Deodorants, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Household cleaning supplies. These items are for those people and families whose paychecks are stretched to the end of each month, and they find these necessary items are expensive to purchase and to put food on the table at the same time.

Please put the items in the boxes prepared in the Gathering Place. Thank you!

Kudos to Tracy Wieseman for the musical service she put together this past Sunday. The musical performances were outstanding and correlated well with the Bible verses to reinforce the themes. Thank you to all who were involved!!! Claudia Brown

From Christian Education: Did You Know?!

CE has been very busy this year, here's a partial list of what was offered:

Adult CE

CE is very proud of the fact that we now offer four Bible Study classes for our adult members. The studies are on Monday afternoon, Tuesday night, Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning. Coming this fall, we will offer new Adult Forums and one more new Bible Study, stay tuned!

Young Adults

We continue to see our young adults gather together and serve. In addition to a periodic Bible study and fellowship sessions every few weeks, there is also an important gathering of young adults most Sunday afternoons in the gym to play Pickleball. This group can be between 8 and 12 folks on any given day.Young adults like John Fider, Austin Shoop, Chad Hall, Alix Fider and several other young adults from the community play and enjoy each other's company. This Pickleball ministry should not go unnoticed. 

Young Families

This is the area that we are most proud of our accomplishments. Since we came back from COVID in February 2022, our events and contact and interaction with young families has grown by leaps and bounds! In the last year alone, we have held approximately 25 different events for young families of our church, preschool and community. Some of these events include coffee and donuts for our preschool families. Since last summer, we have had coffee and donuts in the preschool 15 times, interacting with young families from church and the preschool. VBS 2025 was a great success and VBS 2026 is next week! Other events include the Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat, and our outreach. These have reached hundreds of young adults, families and children over the last two years from our church, the preschool and community. The response has been tremendous. Many show up on campus and at other events, including Meal with a Mission! Intergenerational Choir - We restarted the Choir a few years ago and have continually invited our young families and children to join. We perform about six times or more per year, especially around holidays and special Sundays. Music is a very important part of our worship, and few recognize this special young family opportunity. Christmas Eve Service - For the last several years, CE has put on performances and attracted hundreds of young families from church, the preschool and the community.

Children

This is another area where CE is very proud of our accomplishments. Since February 2022 we have made many changes and upgrades to our Sunday School. The first Sunday we started in the gym but have since moved to two preschool rooms. If you haven't seen Room 112, our official Sunday School room, I invite you to visit and see how it's decorated for our children, with more to follow! Of course, we were donated the smart television which we use every week to play music, games and integrate with our Sunday School lesson. We continue to develop ideas for its use. We also changed curriculum to use one that offers lessons from preschool through 8th grade. Preschool - CE started the preschool class a few years ago and it's great. Music, crafts and a lesson for all of our youngest participants!

CORE

We are very proud that we are doing more service around the church (Earth Care, Meal with a Mission, Fall Faire, etc.) and in the community (Laundry Ministry, CROP Walk, Earth Care) than ever before. We continue to offer great lessons and fellowship events to the youth, and we use CORE as outreach and invite the friends of our youth as well. We have great Youth Mentors, led by Pastor Lisa and Austin.

Adult Forum and Sunday School

Join us in Room 204, starting at 10:10 am. Bring your coffee and a friend and come and learn and come and discuss. We've started a new study called "Eyewitness Bible" where we learn about the many characters in the Bible. This week we will listen and meet "James, one of Jesus' brothers!" See you there!

Youth Church and Pre-K/K Youth Church are on summer recess.

Gathering Video this Week

Our video for this week is "Our God is an Awesome God," by singer Phil Wickham. This is the theme for VBS this week that starts on Monday! Come at 10:55 to view the video or stay after the Benediction for the encore.

Monday Afternoon Bible Study - August 3rd

All are invited, come and join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm, every first and third Monday of the month, in Room 204. We continue our in-depth study of the Gospel of John, by Pastor Skip Heitzig. Our next section we will cover is John 7:37-8:11.Come and join this growing group of interested adults, men and women! Learn and discuss.

Men's Bible Study - August 11th

We meet in Room 204, 7 pm - 8:30 pm. For the summer we will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. We also offer this class online via Zoom. If you need the link, contact Scott! For the next session we will explore the topic of "Matthew 5:38-42, The Believer's Right to Not Fight - Turn the Other Cheek." Should Christian men apply this in all conflicts, or only certain situations? We will discuss two questions posed in our last session - "Why Are You Alive"? and "For what would you give your life?" We discuss our questions and opinions from a man's point of view. Suggestions for courses of study are welcome - contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com. This class is for all SSPC congregation men and friends, ages 18 and above.

Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study will reconvene in the fall.

Faith Walk on Friday Mornings

Join Pastor Lisa on Fridays, 9:30 - 11 am to walk and pray, weather-permitting. Please join us!

Lunch Group - August 12th

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!

CE and young leaders from SSPC started a new group for young adults over 18 called "Pathfinders!" For further information, contact Ty Headley. Currently, the group is studying from the Book of Matthew. Come and discuss, come and learn!

Laundry Ministry Update - Loads of love!

The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their Laundry Ministry here at the church. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats.

Donation Update: Due to your generous giving, we are going to donate some of the cards to the laundry ministry of Downtown Daily Bread and New Hope Ministries. We are also anticipating a trip to Enola soon to donate more cards to local patrons. Thanks for your continuous support and prayers.

Storyboard Ministry

The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Earth Care

Mobile Packing times are Friday, August 7 from 6-8 pm and Saturday, August 8 from 9 - 11 am. Time slots are also available for set up and clean up.

·     100+ volunteers needed to pack meals of rice, soy, vitamins & veggies

·     Choose from Friday evening or Saturday morning sessions

·     Great family activity ages 5+ can participate

·     Mission Partners distribute these meals around the world

·     Pray for the children awaiting the meals we will provide

·     Experience the power of working together to feed God’s hungry children
