"The Power of Prayer"
Part II - Answered Prayers
| |
Last week, as we studied the Lord’s Prayer, we discovered a powerful way to pray using the ACTS model: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. We also reflected on the importance of setting our intentions in prayer—focusing our hearts on praising God, thanking God for provision and answered prayers, and bringing our needs before God, aligned with God’s will for us.
This week, we will hear compelling testimonies of how God answers prayer—stories of healing, provision, comfort, and guidance. These real-life examples will remind us that God is not only listening but is actively working in our lives. There will be copies of all of the stories submitted to take home and read.
See you on Sunday!

Come and view at 10:55 am or stay after the Benediction and view an encore performance.
Another New Ministry from SSPC Youth: Update!
The SSPC Youth and CORE members are pleased to announce a second new ministry here at SSPC. Inspired by our Meal with a Mission success with gathering laundry pods for Downtown Daily Bread, the new ministry is called Laundry Ministry. A large container is in the Gathering Place for your quarters every time you pass by. When we get about $25 or more in quarters, the youth will take them to a local laundromat and give them to patrons as outreach and taking our love for each other into our community. We appreciate the congregation's support of our efforts and as always, your prayers.
UPDATE - Last Saturday, Pastor Lisa went back to the laundromat and was able to reach out to another eight patrons with assistance. Your donations continue to give and extend our mission. We will continue and give updates as we have them to the congregation.

Manna Project
Over 17 years ago, SSPC began to welcome newcomers through the Manna Project. Each year, volunteers sign up to welcome visitors with a loaf of bread and to share information about SSPC along with what the church means to them. Many visitors have joined our church family because of a Manna Visit. Please consider participating in this project to welcome our new visitors. There is a new sign-up sheet in the Gathering Place. For any questions, please contact Shannon Leary at shanlear17@gmail.com.
Storyboard Ministry
The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. Update: We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to members of the congregation who continue to add requests!

Earth Care
The fresh, smooth feeling after using exfoliating scrubs may feel great, but many of them contain microbeads, which are smaller than a grain of sand and finer than a human hair. These tiny plastic particles slip through water treatment systems, polluting rivers and oceans. They harm marine life and make their way into the food chain.

New Hope Ministry
Needs for the month of AUGUST include: pasta sauce, peanut butter, and shampoo. Donation bins are located by the Chapel.
Thank you for your support to this local ministry!
| |
CORE Youth Group
CORE will meet on Sunday, August 3rd, after our "Meet and Greet with Austin Shoop." Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
CORE is from 6 pm to 8 pm in the CORE room, downstairs at the church in the Preschool on most Sundays. CORE is open to all youth from sixth grade to twelfth grade. CORE is about fellowship, service and Christian Education. Come and join us at our next meeting!

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
THIS MONTH
- The Session voted unanimously to hire Austin Shoop as SSPC's next Youth Director. Austin started July 1 and can be reached at austin@silverspring.org. Many thanks to Drew Crompton and the search team working on behalf of the Personnel Committee. Please congratulate Austin!
- Vacation Bible School was a success! The CE Committee, Pastor Lisa Chase, and numerous volunteers did fine work leading the children through biblical examples of divine rescue. The kids and volunteers all had a terrific time, and learned how God rescues his children throughout scripture, especially in Jesus Christ!
- The Fellowship Committee helped us celebrate both mothers and fathers this past month with special receptions between the two Worship services. Thanks to our Fun-Loving Fellowship folks!
