Reformation Sunday

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday is Reformation Sunday and the beginning of our Season of Commitment. Accordingly, we begin a 4-part series called Faithful Stewardship, by focusing on Jesus’ parable of the Pharisee and the Publican (tax collector) in Luke 18:9-14. The contrast between the Pharisee’s self-righteous prayer and the Publican’s abject plea for mercy gives us a lesson in the importance of humility, but what does it have to teach us about faithful stewardship?

Come on Sunday and find out!

See you in church - don’t forget to wear red!

Sermons in this series:

Fall Faire 2025

Fall Faire Tomorrow! 8 AM - 2 PM

Bring your friends, neighbors, cash and checks! We’re all set for a fantastic day! Bring the whole family!

The Silent Auction is packed with GREAT ITEMS! Unique gift items, hand crafted wood items, valuable services, beautiful gift baskets, original artwork by members and MUCH MORE! The bidding will end on Saturday, the 25th,
at 1 pm.

Fall Faire Parking for Everyone

For all able-bodied SSPC members working and/or patronizing the Fall Faire, remote parking will be available at the Waugh-Wilson House, 404 Silver Spring Road. PLEASE NOTE, however, that, due to under-utilization the past several years, there will not be a shuttle service this year. If you are able, please park at Waugh-Wilson in the flat grassy area to the right as you enter the driveway. Please be sure to park perpendicular to Silver Spring Road and leave a wide center lane. As you walk to the church property, please stay safely away from Silver Spring Road.

For SSPC members who must park on church property, please use ONLY the lower (north) lot behind the Meeting House, entering from and exiting to Presbyterian Drive. When driving on church property, PLEASE OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS, which are placed to maximize the safety of both members and patrons. For example, the road in front of the gym and Gathering Place will be one-way from the upper (south) parking lot (closest to the Manse) to the lower (north) parking lot behind the Meeting House. Following these simple rules will ensure plenty of convenient parking for patrons in areas where attendants will be on duty to direct them.

Thank you for your cooperation!

It’s Reformation Sunday, and the First Sunday in the Season of Commitment, and a lot is happening here at SSPC!

Be sure to wear Red and come early:  At 8:45, we will gather in the parking lot by the spring.  Then we will process behind our bagpiper into worship. At the conclusion of worship, we will process behind our bagpiper into the cemetery.

There will be a special ceremony led by the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence to honor the newly-installed plaque by the grave of Ann Witherspoon Walker, the 2nd wife of John Witherspoon.  John Witherspoon was the President of Princeton Seminary, chaplain to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration.  This will be followed by a reception in the Gathering Place.

You are invited to the dedication of a

plaque honoring

Silver Spring’s “Season of Commitment” begins this Sunday

This Reformation Sunday marks the beginning of our “Season of Commitment” at Silver Spring, which will culminate with Commitment Sunday, November 16, when we will consecrate our stewardship commitments for 2026.

Each of us is called by Christ to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”(Matthew 22:36-40)  You will soon be receiving SSPC’s 2026 Financial Narrative, which will tell the story of how we are seeking to fulfill Christ’s Great Commandment through the allocation of resources to: loving and praising God; loving and nurturing our church family; and loving and serving our neighbors. This week, and on the next two Sundays, members of our congregation will share a personal “reflection on commitment” during worship.

This week, Shannon Leary will be sharing her reflections on commitment at each worship service. Don’t miss it!

We hope to see you in church on Sunday!

Storyboard Ministry

The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.

We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to everyone who continues to add requests. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Look soon for a new chapter to our Storyboard Ministry, something for "Answered Prayers"! Blessings.
