"The Power of Persistent Prayer"
| |
This Sunday we focus on prayer. In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus tells the disciples the parable of the persistent widow and the unjust judge in order to show them that they should pray constantly and not lose hope. What does this have to teach us about prayer? We may be surprised by what Jesus says prayer is and what prayer does.
Come on Sunday and find out more!
See you in church!

Fall Faire – Saturday, October 25
1 week until the Fall Faire!
WHITE ELEPHANT: Boxes are to be labeled and sorted into categories (housewares, glass, toys, Christmas).
The last date to donate your items for Fall Faire is Sunday, October 19. Thank you so much for your donations this year!
NO BOOKS WILL BE ACCEPTED THIS YEAR. NO FRAMED ART. Also, no linens, clothing, suitcases, electronics or large pieces of furniture. We must adhere to these guidelines so the limited number of volunteers can process them.
• Fall Fair Boutique: We need donations of handmade items, art, stitchery and wood. Finer White elephant treasures will be incorporated with handmade items in enticing displays. Also, a Pantry will be featured where we will sell your homemade jellies, jams and food gift items. Small, potted house plants & succulents will be accepted, NO PERENNIALS this year.
• Christmas Corner: Don’t forget about donating Christmas decorations, decorative items, ornaments, table toppers for our festive Christmas area.
• Toys: A complete Children’s room will feature all your donated toys, games and play items.
• Silent Auction: Please have everything at church by Friday, October 17th with your items in presentation form, and a description and value attached. Early bird bidding will begin after church on Sunday, October 19th. PLEASE NOTE: If you have something you think should go in the silent auction, please contact Pastor Lisa at lisa@silverspring.org to review the item with her before bringing it to church.
• Food, food, food: Soups, lunch food, sticky buns, apple dumplings, pies, baked goods will all be for sale for eating onsite or take out. We will need donations of baked goods and pies, so sign up!
SIGN UP BOARD -
We are in desperate need of volunteers on the day of the Faire and the few days prior. If you can help in anyway, if just for a couple hours, please sign up NOW!
Please see the large Sign-Up board in the Gathering Place so you can plan on where you can help out.
PARKING INSTRUCTIONS for all members:
This year we are trying a slightly different approach than in past years.
For all able-bodied SSPC members working and/or patronizing the Fall Faire, remote parking will be available at the Waugh-Wilson House, 404 Silver Spring Road. PLEASE NOTE, however, that, due to under-utilization the past several years, there will not be a shuttle service this year. If you are able, please park at Waugh-Wilson in the flat grassy area to the right as you enter the driveway. Please be sure to park perpendicular to Silver Spring Road and leave a wide center lane. As you walk to the church property, please stay safely away from Silver Spring Road.
For SSPC members who must park on church property, please use ONLY the lower (north) lot behind the Meeting House, entering from and exiting to Presbyterian Drive. When driving on church property, PLEASE OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS, which are placed to maximize the safety of both members and patrons. For example, the road in front of the gym and Gathering Place will be one-way from the upper (south) parking lot (closest to the Manse) to the lower (north) parking lot behind the Meeting House. Following these simple rules will ensure plenty of convenient parking for patrons in areas where attendants will be on duty to direct them.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Storyboard Ministry
The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.
We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to everyone who continues to add requests. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Look soon for a new chapter to our Storyboard Ministry, something for "Answered Prayers"! Blessings.
