"Living in Gratitude"

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Do you know anyone who never seems to be satisfied? There's always something missing in their life. That is certainly a trait of all of us. Jesus encourages us to examine the treasures in our lives and to ask if our faith in Him determines the treasures or is it the other way around?

Another New Ministry from SSPC Youth: Update!

The SSPC Youth and CORE members are pleased to announce a second new ministry here at SSPC. Inspired by our Meal with a Mission success with gathering laundry pods for Downtown Daily Bread, the new ministry is called Laundry Ministry. A large container is in the Gathering Place for your quarters every time you pass by. When we get about $25 or more in quarters, the youth will take them to a local laundromat and give them to patrons as outreach and taking our love for each other into our community. We appreciate the congregation's support of our efforts and as always, your prayers.

UPDATE - We continue to collect generous donations from the congregation and are purchasing prepaid cards from Morris Laundromats to distribute at our next service day. The new ministry is very well received by the patrons we are meeting.

Monday Bible Study, August 11th

All are invited to join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm every other week. We continue a study of Revelation as we watch sessions by Rev. Gary Hamrick, from Leesburg, Virginia. Come and learn, come and discuss. This class is for adults from 18 to 99!

Young Families Christian Education Group

Also new in 2025, CE has begun a new effort for our young families. We meet one Sunday a month with young families for lunch and discussion. We are planning one or more events this summer featuring earth care, food, fun and fellowship built for our young families. All interested families can contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com or 717-389-5100 for more information.

Manna Project

Over 17 years ago, SSPC began to welcome newcomers through the Manna Project. Each year, volunteers sign up to welcome visitors with a loaf of bread and to share information about SSPC along with what the church means to them. Many visitors have joined our church family because of a Manna Visit. Please consider participating in this project to welcome our new visitors. There is a new sign-up sheet in the Gathering Place. For any questions, please contact Shannon Leary at shanlear17@gmail.com.

Storyboard Ministry

The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. Update: We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard; thanks to members of the congregation who continue to add requests!

Earth Care: Did you know?

More than 20 billion coffee pods are disposed of globally each year? 39,000 pods are produced every minute. This convenience produces waste on a massive scale. Proper recycling/composting can cut 2-5 gr. CO2 per pod. Think about it.

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

THIS MONTH

- The Session voted unanimously to hire Austin Shoop as SSPC's next Youth Director. Austin started July 1 and can be reached at austin@silverspring.org. Many thanks to Drew Crompton and the search team working on behalf of the Personnel Committee. Please congratulate Austin!

- Vacation Bible School was a success! The CE Committee, Pastor Lisa Chase, and numerous volunteers did fine work leading the children through biblical examples of divine rescue. The kids and volunteers all had a terrific time, and learned how God rescues his children throughout scripture, especially in Jesus Christ!

- The Fellowship Committee helped us celebrate both mothers and fathers this past month with special receptions between the two Worship services. Thanks to our Fun-Loving Fellowship folks!
