"Story Arcs: Hymns and Life"

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Silver Spring Presbyterian church members love their hymns! They love to sing them, pray with them, hum them! There are many favorites of the congregation – too numerous to review in just one Sunday service. This Sunday, in our message “Story Arc” I will delve into the back story of a few hymns, and we will follow their story arcs – from Praising God, Recognizing Our Sin and Our Incompleteness without the Triune God, and Our Abundant Life with God! This service is not our annual summer hymn sing, which will scheduled later in the month.

Join us on Sunday!

From Christian Education:

Did You Know?! Christian Education at SSPC and Evangelism

This past weekend, several members of our Youth Group, Pastor Lisa, Austin Shoop and Scott Pepperman visited the Morris laundromat in Enola. It was an incredible experience! We handed our several gift cards, talked to a dozen different folks and were asked to pray with a man and his partner for his father. We gathered in a prayer circle and prayed together for healing mercies. Following is an email we received after our event:

"I just had an interaction with some of your Youth Group today at Morris Laundromat in Enola. They were handing out laundry cards to people there. I thought it was just great! I love to see our faithful Youth getting out into the World and interacting… no matter how big or small it might be. It’s true you never know what might come out of a small gesture. It shows a lot about your church and your leadership… and your youth! In fact, it sparked a conversation between my partner and I in visiting your church sometime in the near future. So again, thank you! In Christ’s Love, Matt and Tony"

Christian Education offers more than 10 Bible study classes each month for adults during the summer! We offer classes on Sunday morning, Monday afternoon, Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. Come and join us to discuss and learn!

Contact Scott Pepperman, (puppytrainer52@aol.com) or Heather McCarthy (hjd.gmb@gmail.com) for more information.

Blood Pressure Sunday

Come to Room 201 this Sunday to have your blood pressure checked between 10 and 10:45 am.

Adult Forum and Sunday School

Join us in Room 204, starting at 10:10 am. Bring your coffee and a friend and come and learn and come and discuss. We've started a new study called "Eyewitness Bible" where we learn about the many characters in the Bible. This week we will listen and meet "Matthew, the richest disciple!" See you there!

Youth Church and Pre-K/K Youth Church are on summer recess.

Gathering Video this Week

Our video for this week is from singer Ester Hnamte, a five-year-old who sings "Goodness of God." This beautiful young singer reminds us of so many of the beautiful children this week at VBS. Come at 10:55 and to view the video or stay after the Benediction for the encore.

Men's Bible Study - August 11th

We meet in Room 204, 7 pm - 8:30 pm. For the summer we will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. We also offer this class online via Zoom. If you need the link, contact Scott! For the next session we will explore the topic of "Matthew 5:38-42, The Believer's Right to Not Fight - Turn the Other Cheek." Should Christian men apply this in all conflicts, or only certain situations? We will discuss two questions posed in our last session - "Why Are You Alive"? and "For what would you give your life?" We discuss our questions and opinions from a man's point of view. Suggestions for courses of study are welcome - contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com. This class is for all SSPC congregation men and friends, ages 18 and above.

Monday Afternoon Bible Study - August 17th

All are invited, come and join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm, every first and third Monday of the month, in Room 204. We continue our in-depth study of the Gospel of John, by Pastor Skip Heitzig. Our next section we will cover is John 8:12-59.Come and join this growing group of interested adults, men and women! Learn and discuss.

Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study will reconvene in the fall.

Laundry Ministry Update - Loads of love!

The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their Laundry Ministry here at the church. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats.

Donation Update: Due to your generous giving, we are going to donate some of the cards to the laundry ministry of Downtown Daily Bread and New Hope Ministries. We are also anticipating a trip to Enola soon to donate more cards to local patrons. Thanks for your continuous support and prayers.

Storyboard Ministry

The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.
