"Financial Advice from God, Part 3:
God's Expected Return on Investment"
| | |
This Sunday, we continue our Season of Commitment and the sermon series, “Financial Advice from God.” This week in Part 3, Jesus tells the disciples the parable of the talents. [Matthew 25:14-30]. What exactly is it that persuades the man with a single talent to bury it instead of using it? What do the other two servants have that he does not?
Come on Sunday and find out!
Sermons in this series:
Financial Advice from God
October 25 Part 1: “God’s Investment Strategy” [Matthew 6:19-24 – Do not store up treasures on earth]
November 1 Part 2: “God’s Call to Faithful Philanthropy” [Matthew 19:16-26 – The Rich young man]
November 8 Part 3: “God’s Expected Return on Investment” [Matthew 25:14-30 – Parable of the talents]
November 15 Part 4: “God’s Multiplier Effect” [Matthew 15:32-38 – The feeding of the four thousand]
See you in church!
Blessings,
Don

To Prepare for Veteran's Day
This Sunday November 8th the Fellowship Committee will be at both services handing out stickers and American flags to each veteran. This is to make it easy to identify members of our congregation who are veterans so the congregation can thank them for their service and sacrifice.
During the Coffee Hour, there will be a revolving slide presentation in the Gathering Place featuring our veterans. Also enjoy some delicious cake to eat with your coffee or tea.
Please take the time to search out the veterans to thank them for protecting our country and way of life. May you have a safe and memorable Veterans Day next week.

SSPC’s 2027 Financial Narrative in support of our Season of Commitment is available!
We want you to know the Commitment, Legacy and Endowment (CLE) and Finance Committees have worked with Session to produce a 2027 Financial Narrative document to help communicate Silver Spring’s current plans for 2027 and the anticipated resources required to achieve them.
Recognizing that everything we do should focus on one or more of these areas - Loving and Praising God, Loving and Nurturing our Church Family and Loving and Serving our Neighbors, the narrative is organized via a framework that shows how our plans, programs and initiatives will, with your support, help us achieve our Mission in these important areas. The first six pages provide a summary and the remaining pages provide details regarding the purpose and 2027 goals of each committee of Session.
You can find a copy of the narrative at the following link – SSPC 2027 Financial Narrative. If you have any trouble viewing it, or need a hard copy, please contact Priscilla in the church office at priscillab@silverspring.org or 717-766-0204. We ask that you please review it as you prayerfully consider your commitment to continue Christ’s work at, and through, Silver Spring in 2027.
This Sunday’s Reflection on Commitment will be shared by Scott Pepperman. Don’t miss it!
We hope to see you in worship.
Bill Resser and Jim Bogar

Giant Gift Cards - Help CE Raise Money for our Christian Education programs!
For many years, Cindy Corbin has administered the Giant food gift card program. We thank Cindy, as she will soon be handing it off to another member of the congregation. If you shop at Giant and sign up for gift cards, there’s no added cost. For every dollar, Christian Education gets five cents, so on a monthly basis, it’s $75 maybe $100. Christian Education appreciates your faith and trust in our programs and your support as always. Blessings
Laundry Ministry Update - Loads of love!
The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their Laundry Ministry here at the church. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats. We will be traveling to the Morris Laundromat in New Cumberland next time we go out to spread evangelism and hand out gift cards! We have donated 10 gift cards to New Hope Ministries to spread our gifts! Further Update - we were able to provide laundry gift cards to a brother in need recently. The Laundry Ministry continues to spread the Gospel!
Storyboard Ministry
The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO SUPPORT SILVER SPRING IN 2026 – RMD & QCD REMINDER
Making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your qualified retirement account in the remaining weeks of 2026 is an excellent and impactful way to support the ministry and mission of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church and to minimize your Federal Income Tax obligation. It is truly a win-win situation.
Depending on your age, the Federal Government requires that you take annual distributions (withdrawals) from your qualified 401(k) or individual retirement account (IRA). You must generally begin making RMD’s starting at age 73. The RMD age increases to age 75 for individuals born in 1960 or later. These withdrawals, which are referred to as RMD’s (taxable income), may be distributed directly from your IRAs to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in the form of a QCD. A QCD reduces your annual RMD. In other words, using your RMD for charitable giving via a QCD to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church directly reduces your taxable income and helps support our programs.
You don't have to wait to age 73 to 75 to make a tax-free QCD from your 401(k) or IRA. The SECURE Act of 2019, as amended, extended the age for making RMDs but left the age for making QCDs at 70 ½ and you may distribute up to $111,000 annually tax-free to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church. QCDs are a great way to reduce your income and estate taxes.
Please consult the administrator of your retirement plan, along with your tax or financial advisor, to determine the best alternative for making your QCD to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in 2026, annually in 2027 and beyond. It is generally a simple and easy process.
Please feel free to contact Jim Bogar at 717-608-8773 or jbogar@bogarlaw.com or Bill Resser at 717-580-7667 or billresser@gmail.com with any questions you may have.
