The Fundamentals of Discipleship, Part 2:

Love (as he loves us)

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday we continue a 4-part sermon series based on the Gospel of John, "The Fundamentals of Discipleship".  In John 13:31-35, Jesus is at the table with his disciples for what will be his last supper. Knowing the traumatic events that lie ahead for him and his disciples, he commands them to love one another. As you and I face the challenge of turbulent times for Christian disciples, how can we better love one another?

Come on Sunday and find out!

See you in church -

Don

New Youth Ministry

The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have placed an easel in the Gathering Place, along with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.

Young Adults Group, the Pathfinders!

New in 2025, CE and young leaders from SSPC have begun a new group for young adults over 18. For further information, contact Ty Headley or John Goff. This group is for young adults from 19 and older, single or married! This new effort is specifically for our young adults and they are leading this effort and charting their own course. Watch for new events being planned!

Young Families Christian Education Group

Also new in 2025, CE has begun a new effort for our young families. We are meeting one Sunday a month with young families for lunch and discussion. We are planning one or more events this summer featuring earth care, food, fun and fellowship built for our young families. All interested families can contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com or 717-389-5100 for more information.

Discount cards to support the SSPC youth

The SSPC Youth have launched a new effort to raise additional funds for our Christian Education programs. Here's how it works: The Discount Cards feature savings from 15 local and national programs, like restaurants, family fun centers and service organizations. (For example, Sal's Pizza in Mechanicsburg, Dad's Garage in Mechanicsburg, The Bagel Boutique in Mechanicsburg, Trindle Bowling Alley in Camp Hill, and Jiffy Lube in Mechanicsburg). The card is usable for one year, and can be used over and over, increasing your savings each time you visit. Each card costs $15 and can easily be paid for in just several visits to one of the featured businesses. Reach out to me at puppytrainer52@aol.com or call me at 717-389-5100 to request a card or cards. Then make out a check for SSPC and drop it off at the office or give it to me. They are great to use or give as gifts. For each card we sell, the SSPC Christian Education program will make $10, and we hope to sell 200 cards in 2025. As always, the CE Youth appreciate your support of our efforts and your prayers.

Blessings, Scott Pepperman and Drew Crompton.

SSPC Name Badges

"At our Baptism, God called us by name!" How wonderful it is to be called by our name, especially on a Sunday morning in church! As we invite guests and new members into our church, it would be nice to have them know our names. If you have a name badge, I challenge you to wear it; if not, contact me and I will arrange to get you one. If you are a new member, let me know and I will get you one. Simply contact me, Scott Pepperman, at puppytrainer52@aol.com. The cost for each badge is $6. Once you receive your badge, simply give a check to the church office made out to "SSPC". If you lost your badge or magnet let me know and I will order a replacement.

Earth Care - Did you know?

Not all glass/glassware is recyclable. Different types of glass have different compositions.  Container glass, as well as glass used in food jars and beverage bottles, share a common melting point, making it easy to recycle together. This is why recycling programs commonly accept only container glass. No matter the content, broken glass should not be placed in recycle bins. Glass bakeware can contaminate the recycled stuff. To dispose of broken glass: wrap in newspaper or cloth, place it in cardboard box, tape shut (write 'broken glass' on the outside) and place it in trash. This protects trash collectors from harm.

Mission

Spring Cleaning

There is a ministry in Harrisburg called Recycle Bicycle. A small group of volunteers take used bikes that are in reasonably good condition, repair and recalibrate each bike, and then make those bicycles available to youth and adults, at no cost, for transportation around the city. The volunteers also work with youth on Saturdays showing them how to maintain their bikes.

So if you come across an unused bicycle in your garage, basement, or shed while doing your spring cleaning, and you are so moved, please consider donating the bike to Recycle Bicycle. You may contact John Reardon at (717) 731-3403 (home) or (717) 379-4984 (cell) to arrange pick up. If John is not available bicycles can be stored in the church garage for a short time until they can be transported to Harrisburg.

ROAR Summer Mission Trip

Instead of going north to Maine in August the ROAR Team will be heading south to Asheville, North Carolina for the week of Sunday, August 03 through Saturday, August 09, 2025 . We will be working with Asheville Habitat For Humanity building homes for people in need and/or rebuilding properties damaged by Hurricane Hellene in September of 2024. You do not need to be a skilled builder to be a part of the August ROAR Team, all you need is a willing heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we minister to our neighbors, some of whom lost all their worldly goods last fall. A ROAR Team is not a specific, skilled group of people. A ROAR Team is a group of volunteers gathered together as witnesses of God’s love, bringing hope to those in need.

If you are interested in being part of the August ROAR Team or need more information, please contact Terry Reed at 717-766-2714, tsreed@verizon.net, or see him at church.

CORE Youth Group

CORE will meet on Sunday, May 18th. The members of CORE and the Youth Mentors will meet this Sunday at 6 pm. We will gather around the Storyboard to pray for members of our congregations, check in with each other and work on VBS decorations.

CORE is from 6 pm to 8 pm in the CORE room, downstairs at the church in the Preschool on most Sundays. CORE is open to all youth from sixth grade to twelfth grade. CORE is about fellowship, service and Christian Education. Come and join us at our next meeting!

Dear SSPC family,

The many good wishes, prayers, cards, emails, flowers, food, and so much more have been overwhelming and so very appreciated. Most frustrating is that I cannot respond to everyone individually as my iPad and phone aren't working. I will get back to everyone hopefully soon.

God bless you all, Tracy Bryan

thank you

THANK YOU!

What a privilege it was to be a part of last Sunday's traditional service with all the vocal and instrumental offerings. It was truly heartwarming, stirring, and beautiful. Thank you to all who participated. Let's have a service like this again before too long. Claudia Brown
