Our Sin and God's Grace
Part 3: The Sin of Blindness
| | |
This Sunday we continue our 4-part Sermon Series entitled “Our Sin and God’s Grace.” When Jesus heals the eyesight of a man born blind, no one – including the man himself – understands the significance of what has happened. [John 9:1-41]. When Jesus seeks out the man and calls him to faith, he sees that his healer is also his Lord and Saviour. Ironically, he who was blind can now see with both his eyes and his heart, while the others all remain spiritually blind. What about you and me? How is our spiritual vision? How might we improve it, and what might happen if we did?
Come on Sunday and find out!
Sermons in this series:

One Great Hour of Sharing – Special Offering – Palm Sunday, March 29
In Isaiah 58, the prophet exclaims, “Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in” (Isaiah 58:12). As the people of Israel returned from the cloud of exile and struggled to rebuild their lives, Isaiah questioned their efforts: [Are you not called] “to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them?” (Isaiah 58:7).
When we give to One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS), we are combining our efforts with thousands of churches across the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to repair peoples’ lives — people who are hurting, oppressed, lost or on the margins of society. The exact people about whom Isaiah is speaking. The people we are called to connect with every day, but especially in the light of the Good News of the resurrection.
Your gift to One Great Hour of Sharing to benefit Presbyterian ministries to end hunger and poverty, provide assistance after disaster strikes, work with sustainable community development, and come alongside immigrants, migrants, and refugees. This is an opportunity to participate in God’s ongoing repair of the world God so loves and see how giving opens your heart to God’s work in your own life.
Monday Bible Study - March 23rd
All are invited to join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm, every second and fourth Monday of the month, in Room 204. We continue our in-depth study of the Gospel of John. Come and learn, come and discuss.

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!
CE and young leaders from SSPC started a new group for young adults over 18. Watch for new events being planned! For more information, please contact Ty Headley. The group is currently studying from the Book of Matthew.
Laundry Ministry Update
The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their new ministry here at the church, the Laundry Ministry. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, in the laundry basket and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats. The weather has curtailed our efforts, but we will be back at it soon. Thanks for the prayers and quarters!
Storyboard Ministry
The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.
We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to everyone who continues to add requests. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is now in place beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Tai Chi Walking - Starting April 22nd
We are starting a Tai Chi Walking class at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church. Tai Chi is traditional martial art from China which has been practiced for centuries. While it is practiced as a functional martial art for self defense, Tai Chi has become more widely known for its benefits to wellness and longevity. Practicing Tai Chi has been shown to help increase circulation, decrease pain in joints, help increase mobility, improve balance as well as improve overall quality of life as we age.
At its core, Tai Chi centers around four principles: breath, balance, posture and relaxation. Through a series of simple movements, breathing exercises and meditation, we learn how to apply these principles in a functional way to our everyday lives. By learning how to move the body more efficiently and with more awareness, it becomes easier to apply good mechanics and alignment in any activity to avoid unnecessary injury or strain. This is a beginner class and open to all - bring a friend!
-
WHEN? 9:15 to 10:15 am every Wednesday beginning April 22nd.
-
WHERE? Room 202/203
-
WHO? It will be taught by Stephen Maclay (Stephen has been teaching yoga at SSPC for several years.)

Feed My Starving Children
According to UNICEF about 13,000 children under the age of five die every day, with malnutrition being a major underlying factor in these premature deaths.
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s starving children. With God’s help they work together with local organizations and ministries to end hunger. They have developed a process they call “Mobil Pack” that allows them to pack, label and box thousands of meals in a weekend.
Locally, the Turning Point Church Mechanicsburg is hosting a Mobil Pack operation on the weekend of March 13-15. Their goal is to raise $65,000 and pack over 200,000 meals.
The Mission Committee is recruiting a team to volunteer on Friday March 13th for either the 2-4 PM or the 6-8 PM shift. Not all work requires standing. While donations are welcome, they are not required.
Early volunteer registration begins on February 9th. If you’re interested, please send an email to Fred Shatto at fredshatto@gmail.com and indicate which shift you can volunteer. This is a great event and fun for people to do together. I hope you can join us.
