Songs of redemption, hope and grace

Music is a balm for the soul. Whether we’re singing, playing an instrument, or simply listening, music has a remarkable way of transporting us to another place, comforting us, and speaking to our hearts. How many of us can hear a favorite song on the radio and instantly remember every word? Those melodies often bring back cherished memories and remind us of special moments and seasons in our lives.

Music engages both our emotions and our spirits. In much the same way that a beloved hymn can strengthen our faith, familiar songs can inspire hope, stir gratitude, and remind us of God’s presence. It’s no surprise that many of the Psalms were originally written to be sung.

We invite you to join us for worship on Sunday, July 26, as we celebrate the gift of music. Both services will feature songs from Broadway and film that reflect themes of redemption, hope, and grace. Along with these selections, we’ll share hymns or praise music, Scripture, liturgy, and a brief homily.

Special Worship Services this Sunday

You don't want to miss our worship services on July 26th - where we will sing songs of redemption and hope, straight from Broadway and motion pictures. The services will be include our standard worship liturgy, beloved hymns, a short message, and songs sung by some of SSPC's finest voices.

Lectio Divina

The Sunday mornings Lectio Divina sessions have been postponed until further notice due to more immediate pressing church matters. Pastor Lisa hopes to resume in October, but only at 8:15 am. Thank you in advance for understanding.

From Christian Education: Did You Know?!

Christian Education offers more than 10 Bible study classes each month for adults during the summer! We offer classes on Sunday morning, Monday afternoon, Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. Here are some comments from someone who attends:

• "Videos are studies of total books of the Bible by worldwide leaders in the study of the Bible. Their knowledge and easy way of teaching bring the scriptures to life."
• "The two-hour sessions allow for great interaction with attendees."
• "The exchange of ideas, interpretations, in a non-threatening environment leads to a greater understanding of the Bible and of each other."
• "No week passes without leaving all of us something new to appreciate and think about and explore"
• "It has given me a new zest in reading the Bible and bringing me close to my God."

Adult Forum and Sunday School

Join us in Room 204, starting at 10:10 am. Bring your coffee and a friend and come and learn and come and discuss. We've started a new study called "Eyewitness Bible" where we learn about the many characters in the Bible. This week we will listen and meet "Satan!" See you there!

Youth Church and Pre-K/K Youth Church are on summer recess.

Gathering Video for this Week

Our video this week is from singer Sarah Bareilles. In keeping with our theme this week of Christian show tunes, the song is a tribute to Jesus Christ and called "I Don't Know How to Love Him", from the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar". Come at 10:55 and to view the video or stay after the Benediction for the encore.

Men's Bible Study - July 28th

CE is excited to present a new Men's Bible Study at SSPC. We will meet in Room 204, 7 pm - 8:30 pm. For the summer we will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. For the next session we will explore the topic of "Wanted: The Brave, Joshua 1:9 from Kirk Cameron. Kirk Cameron, former actor and now minister, calls Christian men to physical bravery and moral courage.

We now offer this course online via Zoom. If you want to participate but cannot make it to church, contact Scott and he can supply you a link! We will discuss our thoughts and questions and our opinions from a man's point of view and experience. Suggestions for courses of study are welcome, contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com. This class is for all SSPC congregation men and friends, ages 18 and above.

Wednesday Bible Study continues for the Summer!

We meet each week in the Parlor from 1-3 pm. We are currently studying a Max Lucado book. All are invited. Come and Learn!

Monday Afternoon Bible Study - August 3rd

All are invited, come and join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm, every first and third Monday of the month, in Room 204. We continue our in-depth study of the Gospel of John, by Pastor Skip Heitzig. Our next section we will cover is John 7:37-8:11.Come and join this growing group of interested adults, men and women! Learn and discuss.

Faith Walk on Friday Mornings

Join Pastor Lisa on Fridays, 9:30 - 11 am to walk and pray, weather-permitting. Please join us!

Special Drive for Bountiful Blessings during VBS, August 3-7, 2026

Beginning August 2nd – August 16th, we will be taking up a collection of items for Bountiful Blessings, Inc. They need the following NEW items: Shampoos, Conditioners, Body Wash, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Dishwashing Detergent, Deodorants, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Household cleaning supplies. These items are for those people and families whose paychecks are stretched to the end of each month, and they find these necessary items are expensive to purchase and to put food on the table at the same time.

Please put the items in the boxes prepared in the Gathering Place. Thank you!

Fall Faire - October 24, 2026

The Fall Faire committee – a dedicated group of wonderful Deacons, are looking for beautiful items to place and sell in the Boutique area. If you are looking to downsize, or you have things you need to get rid of, we’d love to take a look at any accessory items and furniture, such as lamps, side tables, small sofas, paintings, chairs – and have first dibs on what you want to get rid of before you do anything else with them. Please contact Pastor Lisa, who will then schedule with the FF team to come and look at the items first. Please note that for the White Elephant section, we are no longer taking glassware or small appliances. We will begin taking donations the first week of September.

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!

CE and young leaders from SSPC started a new group for young adults over 18 called "Pathfinders!" For further information, contact Ty Headley. Currently, the group is studying from the Book of Matthew. Come and discuss, come and learn!

Laundry Ministry Update - Loads of love!

The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their Laundry Ministry here at the church. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats.

Donation Update: Due to your generous giving, we are going to donate some of the cards to the laundry ministry of Downtown Daily Bread and New Hope Ministries. We are also anticipating a trip to Enola soon to donate more cards to local patrons, thanks for your continuous support and prayers.

Storyboard Ministry

The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Earth Care

If you are flying for vacation:

Bring your own water bottle-empty. A filled reusable bottle gets you past airport water prices. Most US airports offer refill stations beyond security. Where tap water isn't potable, a bottle with built-in filter or purifier still beats one week of single-use purchases.

Many of you asked from the Traditional Service to see the video clip of my jump that I showed as part of my sermon for the Gathering Service, which was on 7/19, and titled “A Bird’s Eye View.” It was an amazing experience.

Also, I need to make an important correction- in the traditional service, in my message – I said that the “last 12 years have been the most difficult of my life.” That is not the case. I meant to say “the last 12 months have been the most difficult of my life.” Big difference and I am sorry about any confusion.
