Legacy Giving When We're Gone – Continuing God’s Work
Recognizing that our blessings and resources are a gift from God, one way we can continue to sustain God’s work at, and through, Silver Spring well into the future is to designate that some portion of our estate or assets at the end of our life be deposited in one or more of Silver Spring’s 1734 Legacy Funds. Options available to achieve this include:
- Making a bequest in your will, designating a specific dollar amount, a percentage or a residual amount be given to Silver Spring’s 1734 Legacy Funds. Once you’ve updated your will with one of these provisions, you’ll need to fill out the Bequest Allocation Form found at https://www.silverspring.org/1734-legacy-society to designate how you would like your donation to be used. Please consider watching this video entitled “Leaving a Legacy” about legacy giving at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QV37rsddDc&bblinkid=284166460&bbemailid=58263140&bbejrid=-1093728112
- Naming Silver Spring Presbyterian Church as the sole or partial beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy or Retirement Account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Keogh, etc.) You can contact your life insurance company or the custodian of your retirement account for details on how to do this. This option may help reduce some income tax and Estate Tax liabilities.
- Making sure your surviving family members are aware to include in your obituary that gifts to the “Silver Spring Presbyterian Church 1734 Legacy Funds” would be appreciated as a way to honor and memorialize your life.
By making a bequest in your will or naming the Silver Spring 1734 Legacy Funds as a beneficiary, you’ll become a member of the 1734 Legacy Society. Please see your estate planning, financial or tax professional for advice on how you can best achieve the above. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
If you have any questions, please contact Bill Resser (billresser@gmail.com) or Jim Anderson (jeanderson1@comcast.net).

Discount cards to support the SSPC youth
The SSPC Youth have launched a new effort to raise additional funds for our Christian Education programs. Here's how it works: The Discount Cards feature savings from 15 local and national programs, like restaurants, family fun centers and service organizations. (For example, Sal's Pizza in Mechanicsburg, Dad's Garage in Mechanicsburg, The Bagel Boutique in Mechanicsburg, Trindle Bowling Alley in Camp Hill, and Jiffy Lube in Mechanicsburg). The card is usable for one year, and can be used over and over, increasing your savings each time you visit. Each card costs $15 and can easily be paid for in just several visits to one of the featured businesses. Reach out to me at puppytrainer52@aol.com or call me at 717-389-5100 to request a card or cards. Then make out a check for SSPC and drop it off at the office or give it to me. They are great to use or give as gifts. For each card we sell, the SSPC Christian Education program will make $10, and we hope to sell 200 cards in 2025. As always, the CE Youth appreciate your support of our efforts and your prayers.
Blessings, Scott Pepperman and Drew Crompton.

Spring Cleaning
There is a ministry in Harrisburg called Recycle Bicycle. A small group of volunteers take used bikes that are in reasonably good condition, repair and recalibrate each bike, and then make those bicycles available to youth and adults, at no cost, for transportation around the city. The volunteers also work with youth on Saturdays showing them how to maintain their bikes.
So if you come across an unused bicycle in your garage, basement, or shed while doing your spring cleaning, and you are so moved, please consider donating the bike to Recycle Bicycle. You may contact John Reardon at (717) 731-3403 (home) or (717) 379-4984 (cell) to arrange pick up. If John is not available bicycles can be stored in the church garage for a short time until they can be transported to Harrisburg.
ROAR Summer Mission Trip
Instead of going north to Maine in August the ROAR Team will be heading south to Asheville, North Carolina for the week of Sunday, August 03 through Saturday, August 09, 2025 . We will be working with Asheville Habitat For Humanity building homes for people in need and/or rebuilding properties damaged by Hurricane Hellene in September of 2024. You do not need to be a skilled builder to be a part of the August ROAR Team, all you need is a willing heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we minister to our neighbors, some of whom lost all their worldly goods last fall. A ROAR Team is not a specific, skilled group of people. A ROAR Team is a group of volunteers gathered together as witnesses of God’s love, bringing hope to those in need.
If you are interested in being part of the August ROAR Team or need more information, please contact Terry Reed at 717-766-2714, tsreed@verizon.net, or see him at church.
