WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS

2nd Sunday in Lent

March 1, 2026

YOUTH SUNDAY

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday, Youth Sunday, SSPC will lead worship at both services! Their compelling dramatic presentation, "The Summer I Turned Christian," will feature highs and deep, deep lows among two families and friends who have spent the summers together at a beach in the Outer Banks. This particular summer, the teens learn to deal with their messy lives, make new discoveries and change attitudes through the lens of faith in Jesus Christ.

This Sunday is also Communion Sunday, and some of the confirmed youth have been trained to serve Communion. Join us for what will be a very special service where we can be together in the Body of Christ, and celebrate our young people!

2026 Lenten Series begins this week

Seeking to find meditative, reflective silence and deeper connection with God in your spiritual life?

Join Pastors Lisa Chase and Don Wahlig for a meaningful four-week Lenten Series beginning Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 6 – 7 pm in the Chapel.

This series is designed as an in-person experience, as it is highly participatory and invites attendees into spiritual practices that will foster a deeper experience of God in their faith journeys. Together, we will explore sacred disciplines, such as Lectio Divina, Meditative Prayer, and discernment practices that deepen our ability to notice and listen to God.

Through guided reflections, shared conversation and spiritual exercises, we will learn how to apply discernment in everyday life and cultivate awareness, clarity, and faithful responses throughout the Lenten season and beyond within a supportive, prayerful community. Hope to see you there!

The dates are March 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 6-7:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Please sign up in the Gathering Place, or CLICK HERE to register online through Realm.

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!

Laundry Ministry Update

The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their new ministry here at the church, the Laundry Ministry. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, in the laundry basket and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats. The weather has curtailed our efforts, but we will be back at it soon. Thanks for the prayers and quarters!

Storyboard Ministry

The SSPC Youth started a new ministry called the Storyboard Ministry! Here is how it works: The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers. Fill out a Post-it note with a prayer request or hope (no names, please) and each Sunday we will collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request.

We continue to pray each week around the Storyboard, thanks to everyone who continues to add requests. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is now in place beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Tinner-Fehr Scholarship

Thanks to the Tinner/Fehr families, SSPC students have a wonderful opportunity. Applicants for this scholarship must be current, active members of SSPC and either a high school senior or college student committed to a career in human healthcare and/or a human healthcare-related field of study. To apply for the scholarship, they must write a short essay that includes, but is not limited to, listing of the colleges to which they are applying, chosen major, career goal, and explaining how SSPC has influenced their lives and future career choices. Please submit your essay to the Deacon Moderator (Megan Crompton) or to the church office by May 15th.

Short Stories

A group of us are writing a series of short stories reflecting the precious and tender work of a minister of word and sacrament. Please find the latest installment on the bulletin board. Any questions about this, please reach out to Pastor Lisa. If you would like to share something funny, meaningful, a God-sighting, please let me know. And let me know what you think! Warm regards- Lisa

Save the Date for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 am.

Earth Care

Did you know?

Paper is one of the easiest materials to recycle. Using paper products [toilet paper, paper towels, etc] made with used paper is a good place to start. Arie, Green Forest, Natural Value, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods all have these products. Read contents of the product.

Mission

34th YEAR ROAR TEAM REPORT - FEBRUARY 2026

Eighteen members and friends of SSPC spent the week of Monday, February 02 through Friday, February 06, 2026, cleaning and repairing manufactured homes in the Maryland Oaks Crossing (MOC) community in Tallahassee, Florida. Initially, we were to work with Big Bend Habitat For Humanity building a new home, but their lack of planning left us with nothing to do. Fortunately, Habitat put us in contact with Good New’s Outreach, Inc., an organization that owns and operates MOC. God never fails to guide us to where we are needed to serve our brothers and sisters in need.

Good News Outreach provides affordable transitional housing for at-risk families with dependent children at MOC. They provide counseling, tutoring, life skills classes, and a monthly food pantry, to mention a few services available to residents. We worked with Kevin, the community maintenance supervisor who coordinated our efforts through the week.

We worked on two homes accomplishing the following items:

  • Cleaned all parts of both homes, including mold and mildew.
  • Thoroughly cleaned two electric ranges and a refrigerator
  • Removed, cleaned and reinstalled blades from ceiling fans, glass globes from all light fixtures, and all electrical device plates in both units.
  • Repaired a large hole in the floor in one unit.
  • Painted the entire interior of both units, including all the doors.
  • Removed the kitchen sink cabinet and countertop and installed new cabinets and countertop in one unit.
  • Removed and reinstalled interior storm windows so the window jambs could be painted.
  • Rebuilt two back door decks and steps.
  • Replaced rotted deck boards on a third of the front deck at one unit and the entire front deck on the second unit.

The average age of the Team is 77 to 78 years young. Neither knee replacements, heart issues, asthma, spinal surgeries or other health issues could prevent this group from being the hands and feet of our Lord and Saviour serving others in His name. The Team is thankful for the prayers of the Congregation as we completed a safe and productive work week.

Notes prepared by Terry Reed for the Mission Committee

Feed my Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children

According to UNICEF about 13,000 children under the age of five die every day, with malnutrition being a major underlying factor in these premature deaths.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s starving children. With God’s help they work together with local organizations and ministries to end hunger. They have developed a process they call “Mobil Pack” that allows them to pack, label and box thousands of meals in a weekend.

Locally, the Turning Point Church Mechanicsburg is hosting a Mobil Pack operation on the weekend of March 13-15. Their goal is to raise $65,000 and pack over 200,000 meals.

The Mission Committee is recruiting a team to volunteer on Friday March 13th for either the 2-4 PM or the 6-8 PM shift. Not all work requires standing. While donations are welcome, they are not required.

Early volunteer registration begins on February 9th. If you’re interested, please send an email to Fred Shatto at fredshatto@gmail.com and indicate which shift you can volunteer. This is a great event and fun for people to do together. I hope you can join us.
