MacRae Wins Big West Coach of the Year

Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball head coach (and CD4 resident), Nick MacRae, has been named Big West Coach of the Year, capping a remarkable debut season at the helm of the program. In his first year leading the Beach, MacRae guided Long Beach State to a 24-4 overall record and an 8-2 mark in conference play, culminating in a Big West Championship. The Beach established itself as one of the nation's elite programs throughout the season, never falling below No. 3 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

CD4 Community Meeting Recap

On Tuesday, we hosted our monthly CD4 community meeting at the Los Altos Library and were joined by special guests Scout Pack 88 from Prisk Elementary to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Thanks to Lori Craig for arranging the visit. Also thanks to our speaker, LB Utilities PIO Joy Contreras, who shared a detailed presentation on the LB Utilities services and budget. St Joseph 2026 Parish Fair

The annual St. Joseph Parish Fair is back next weekend from Friday, May 1st to Sunday, May 3rd. It is a 3-day event that will include carnival rides, food and live entertainment. It is also the biggest fundraiser of the year for St. Joseph Parish. All food, games, and rides will be open from 5 pm - 11 pm today, Friday 5/1, 12 pm - 11 pm tomorrow, Saturday 5/2 and 12 pm - 8 pm on Sunday 5/3. More information at this link. Vet Banner Program Nominations Extended

The Department of Health and Human Services is accepting nominations for the third year of the Long Beach Veterans Banner Program. This year, up to 65 veteran nominees will be selected for the program. The Office of Veterans Support, in collaboration with the Long Beach Veterans Commission, will oversee the selection of banners to be displayed at various locations in Long Beach for one year, beginning summer 2026. Changes Coming to Hof's Hut Los Altos

The Planning Commission will have a hearing on May 7th for approval of Hof’s Hut request for an ABC license upgrade from Type 41 (beer & wine) to Type 47 (beer, wine & distilled spirits). Hof’s will also be doing some interior and exterior remodeling. More details to come.

FREE Shred Event at CSULB

Recycle Your Bicycle Event

The Environmental Services Bureau invites residents to participate in Recycle Your Bicycle, a community waste reduction event tomorrow, Saturday, May 2nd. Drop off location in CD4 will be at Whaley Park. Usable bicycles will be refurbished by Pedal Movement and donated to local non-profits. Bicycles or parts that cannot be reused will be recycled. Mooney's Pizza Parlor will be hosting an official grand opening and safe opening on Sunday, May 3rd! During Mooney's construction, the owner uncovered a locked 60-year old safe. Filming in the Fourth

Filming is taking place on Monday, May 4th at several locations throughout the City including grid in CD4 bordered by N Bellflower Blvd, E Atherton St, E 7th St and N Studebaker Rd. Production will have a 120-member cast and crew. Filming to consist of in flow driving shots. There will be intermittent pedestrian control. Production may not interfere wih bus stops at any time.

PRM Summer Class Registration Opens 5/4

605/Katella Ramp Closure Begins Monday

Upcoming Long-Term Ramp Closure Alert! Crews will be performing paving and striping work on the southbound I-605 Katella Avenue loop on-ramp, requiring a 10-day closure. Closure begins at 9 pm on Monday, May 4th and reopens by 5 am on Wednesday,, May 13th. Please expect extended ramp closure during construction, potential noise from nighttime work and additional intermittent ramp closures through summer 2026.
