Alert Long Beach Restored & Now Available

The City of Long Beach’s Alert Long Beach emergency notification system has been restored on a new, enhanced and secure platform, following a nationwide cybersecurity incident affecting the vendor’s legacy system last year. Residents and businesses can once again sign up to receive emergency alerts via text messages and/or voice messages to their cell number and/or email address. LBACS First Friday Promotion TODAY

Today, the first Friday of the month, LBACS waives all adoption fees for adoptable animals. All cats, dogs and bunnies are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Visit LBACS today until 8 pm to adopt!

Nature Kids Discovery Workshops

Registration is now open for the Nature Kids Discovery Workshops. Kids ages 5 to 8 years old can join the Nature Center for a week of fun and exploration this spring! Each day the children will learn about a different aspect of nature through investigation, hands-on activities, games, and crafts! Children must have Kindergarten experience. CSULB VITA FREE Tax Prep Program

The CSULB VITA site is available to qualifying taxpayers with an income level of $67,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing for federal and state tax returns. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. Don’t put off your taxes! CSULB VITA refunded over 1 million in taxpayer dollars last tax season. Services are in-person, Mon-Thurs 10 am to 8 pm and Fri 9 am to 3 pm. New Hours of Operation at El Dorado East

Following the annual hours of operation change, El Dorado East Regional Park is now open from 7 am to 8 pm, thru Saturday, October 31st. The last vehicle entry will be at 7:30 pm. See the Regional Park hours at this link.

Agents of Discovery App

The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is encouraging the community to explore the outdoors, get active and learn about local parks by participating in one of several missions available through Agents of Discovery, a free educational mobile gaming platform. HD Orthodontics - Celebrating 10 Years in CD4!

Dr. Heather Desh opened HD Orthodontics in CD4 in 2015. That was the year I took office, and the grand opening was one of our first ribbon cuttings (see attached photo). The office has a very fun, surf-themed atmosphere with an incredibly friendly staff. Dr. Desh is a board certified specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, a prestige only 1 in 3 orthodontists obtain. She graduated from Penn Dental, one of only two Ivy League Dental schools, in the top 5% of her class. She then matriculated into the orthodontics program at Temple University. FREE Upcoming City Shred Event

The Department of Energy and Environmental Services invites Long Beach residents to participate in the upcoming shred event offering no-cost, secure disposal of sensitive documents. Shredded paper is not recyclable in curbside recycling carts. The shred event will be tomorrow, Saturday, March 7th at the Vets Memorial Stadium. Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 8th at 2 am. Remember to "Spring Forward" and change your clocks! The annual change to daylight saving time is the perfect opportunity to make sure your smoke alarms are working properly. Changing the batteries in each device is the easiest way to ensure continued protection of your family and property. You may also want to consider replacing the batteries in flashlights and lanterns in your power outage emergency kits.

Nature Center Gallery Artist's Reception

CSULB 43rd Annual Pow Wow

On Saturday and Sunday, March 14th & 15th, CSULB's annual Pow Wow, an American Indian social celebration, returns to campus. The two-day event, which will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food begins at 11 am each day and runs until 10 pm on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday. Admission and parking are free. The event will be held at the intramural rugby and soccer fields on lower campus. It is recommended that spectators bring folding chairs. View this link for more info.

The Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra will be performing their next two concerts in District 4 on Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th! Los Altos Shopping Center Turns 70 This Week!

Seventy years ago, the Los Altos Shopping Center celebrated its grand opening. The display ad attached appeared in the Press Telegram on Friday, March 2nd, 1956. A couple of the main stores had been open since October 1955, but the entire center opened on March 3rd, 1956. The '56 Chevy in the ad was furnished by Cormier Chevrolet that was located in downtown Long Beach at the time. They and Beach City Chevrolet, at PCH and Orizaba, provided cars the for Miss Universe Pageant in those years.
