New EPD Cmdr Danielle Quiñones

Effective tomorrow, Commander Danielle Quiñones will assume command of LBPD’s East Patrol Division. She began her career with the Long Beach Police Department as a police officer in 2006, promoted to sergeant in 2020, to lieutenant in 2022, and to commander in 2026. She was most recently assigned to the Office of Constitutional Policing Division as a Lieutenant. We are pleased to report that we anticipate a seamless change in command due to her wealth of experience in the East Division. You’ll have a chance to meet her at our CD4 Community Meeting at the Los Altos Library next Tuesday, at 5:30 pm. More meeting details below.

605 Katella Project Overnight Construction

Nightly closures are happening on the northbound I-605 Katella Avenue on-ramp along with one outside lane on the northbound I-605 as crews continue work to realign the ramp and prepare for construction of a new retaining wall. Activities include placing embankment material, excavating and compacting the area, and pouring a thin concrete layer to create a stable surface for wall construction. Work was scheduled from to 10 pm to 5 am this week and will continue from 10 pm to 7 am tonight, Friday, Feb. 20 (into Saturday morning). The Committee of 300 (C300) is seeking volunteers for the 2026 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Volunteers will assist with fan interaction, hospitality and event operations on Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th. The Patricia Delaney Horton Scholarship is awarded annually by Assistance League of Long Beach to one or more outstanding college students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. CSULB VITA FREE Tax Prep Program

The CSULB VITA site is available to qualifying taxpayers with an income level of $67,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing for federal and state tax returns. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. Don’t put off your taxes! CSULB VITA refunded over 1 million in taxpayer dollars last tax season. Services are in-person, Mon-Thurs 10 am to 8 pm and Fri 9 am to 3 pm. The City is seeking input to better understand how people currently participate in City Council meetings and identify barriers that may prevent community members from engaging. Studebaker Road Construction Update

Begins March 2nd | M-F, 7 am - 4 pm | 405 Fwy to Wardlow Rd

The construction notice at this link has been distributed to residents in Segment 3 of the project area. This is from the 405 Frwy to Wardlow Road where work is scheduled to occur. The construction start date has been delayed due to inclement weather and is now scheduled for March 2nd. Construction will performed Monday through Friday between 7 am and 4 pm. “No Parking” signs will be posted a minimum of three days prior to the start of construction in the affected areas.

We are hosting our monthly Council District 4 community meeting at the Los Altos Library on Tuesday, February 24th from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. We'll be joined by our new LBPD East Division Commander, Danielle Quiñones. Also, the Community Crisis Response (CCR) team will provide information on their services, followed by the Department of Public Works for an update on the Studebaker Road Project. CSULB Building Evacuation Drill

On Friday, February 27th, CSULB will be conducting its annual campus-wide building evacuation drill at 10:30 am. The drill will utilize the audible fire alarms, visible strobes, and flashing lights in each building on campus. The drill will conclude at approximately 10:50 am.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Services invites Long Beach residents to participate in the upcoming shred event offering no-cost, secure disposal of sensitive documents. Two Youth Baseball Opening Days in CD4 This Weekend!

This is a great weekend for baseball in our council district. Both Long Beach Little League, at Stearns Champions Park, and Long Beach Pony Baseball, at Whaley Park, will host their 2026 opening day events. It all starts tomorrow, Saturday, when Long Beach Little League celebrates their 74th opening day. The attached graphic lists the schedule of events.
