Please Don't Pick the Nature Center Flowers
Spring has definitely sprung both inside and outside of the El Dorado Nature Center. With everything blooming, EDNC Staff and Volunteers are reminding visitors to look but don’t touch. Flowers that are picked take away a valuable food source for the critters, hamper bees from pollinating and won’t make seeds for next year.

Tomorrow morning, two wayfinding signs designed by BSA scout, Ramon Quevedo, will be hung at Orizaba Park located at 1435 Orizaba Ave. The ceremony at 10:30 am will mark the completion of his Eagle Project. Last year, Ramon met with our office to propose his idea of creating wayfinding signs throughout the city to help direct People Experiencing Homelessness to the city's Multi-Service Center. We were very enthusiastic about his unique idea, and we approved funds to be used for a city pilot program in Orizaba Park. The 17 year old is earning the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. He is the son of Jose and Theresa Quevedo and a member of Troop 120, led by Scoutmaster Gene Wohlgezogen. Congratulations Ramon!

Dodger Blue “42” for 75th Anniversary
Today, April 15th, marks the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Baseball's color barrier in 1947 when he made his historic debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. It also marks the 25th anniversary of his No. 42 being retired across all of Major League Baseball and the designation of April 15th as “Jackie Robinson Day”. In the February 25th edition of our newsletter, as part of Black History Month, we featured an LBTV video honoring Jackie Robinson. It explained how every player, manager and coach throughout MLB has worn No. 42 on this date since 2009 to honor Jackie Robinson’s legacy. What we did not know then was that a special twist was planned for this years celebration. Today, not only will all on-field personnel wear No. 42, but that 42 will be featured in Dodger Blue, regardless of a team’s colors. What a great way to celebrate the life and accomplishments of an incredible player and recognize the team that brought him to the majors! Jackie’s widow, Rachel, who will turn 100 this year, will be in attendance at Dodger Stadium for tonight’s game.
