Registration is now open for the Nature Kids Discovery Workshops. Kids ages 5 to 8 years old can join the Nature Center for a week of fun and exploration this spring! Each day the children will learn about a different aspect of nature through investigation, hands-on activities, games, and crafts! Children must have Kindergarten experience. CSULB 43rd Annual Pow Wow

On Saturday and Sunday, March 14th & 15th, CSULB's annual Pow Wow, an American Indian social celebration, returns to campus. The two-day event, which will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food begins at 11 am each day and runs until 10 pm on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday. Admission and parking are free. LAUMC Chorale & Chamber Orchestra Event

The Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra will be performing their next two concerts in District 4 on Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th! The events will be held at Los Altos United Methodist Church. They will be singing a selection of pieces to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America. Morning Bird Walk at the Nature Center

Whether you're a new birdwatcher or want to sharpen your skills, join volunteers and staff for a morning walk through the Nature Center. There is no sign-up fee, but pre-registration is required by calling (562) 570-1745. Parking is $8.

Bus Stop Installation at Studebaker/Willow

Public Works will be installing a transit stop requested by the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) at the SE corner of Studebaker Rd. and E Willow St. As part of this installation, there will be a tree removal scheduled. On the date of removal, an arborist will confirm there is no active nesting on the tree to be removed. Two replacement trees will be planted at the removal location in the future.

Thinking Money for Kids and Legos Club

In this financial education activity at the Los Altos Library, kids act as party planners with a $100 limit, selecting items over several turns to create a client's party plan. Afterward, they present their choices and explain how they stayed within budget, with the option to choose a “Party Champion” for the most creative and cost-effective plan. This activity is intended for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. The weekly Legos Club hour will also be hosted along with the activity.

PRM Spring Fun Days Enrollment

Enrollment starts March 23rd

Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer its free youth recreation program, Spring Fun Days, at various parks throughout the city during the upcoming school spring break. Spring Fun Days engage children ages 5 to 12 in fun activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and special events. This is a free drop-in program where registered participants may come and go as they please. The program will run Monday thru Friday, April 6th to 10th from noon to 5 pm each day. Pre-registration is required. Applications may be picked up at participating parks starting Monday, March 23rd. CD4 parks include Stearns Champions Park and Whaley Park. "The Most Interesting Man in the World"

One of the great things about serving on City Council is the opportunity to meet interesting people. In fact, back in 2016, I met the actor, Jonathan Goldsmith, who played “the most interesting man in the word” in the Dos Equis commercials. If you never saw the ad campaign, click on the arrow in the attached video window. His famous tag line, "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis", netted the company a 35% sales increase over its 10-year run. He told me that the inspiration for the character's voice came from the late actor Fernando Lamas who was a sailing buddy of Goldsmith's. The ad campaign ended in 2016, but it has been resurrected with Jonathan Goldsmith, now 87, returning in his iconic role.
