Signal Hill Model T Hill Climb

Last Saturday, the Model T Hill Climb returned to Signal Hill to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States. The iconic event had double the participants this year and more cars on display. The oldest entry was a 1912 Model T shown in the attached photo and in the video. Pictured in the group photo are (l to r) Signal Council Members Keir Jones, Lori Woods, myself, Mayor Tina Hansen and Vice Mayor Charlie Honeycutt. The border between Signal Hill and Long Beach is the centerline of Hill street. Westbound (uphill) is Signal Hill, and eastbound (downhill) is in Council District 4.Thanks to the City of Signal Hill and the Long Beach Model T Club for making this great event possible!

Fourth of July Holiday Closures

Friday, July 3rd & Saturday, July 4th



City Hall offices and public services are closed today, Friday, July 3rd, including commercial services typically available in the City Hall lobby in observance of the Fourth of July Holiday. There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations today, Friday, July 3rd. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Monday, July 6th. Trash and Recycling will be collected as scheduled on Friday, July 3rd. Closures also include all library branches on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th. Kidz First Academy Ribbon Cutting

On Sunday, I had the honor of participating in the ribbon cutting for the Kidz First Academy infant center at the Long Beach First Church of the Nazarene. The infant center of the academy is set to open on Monday, July 6th. Information about programming and pricing can be found on their website at this link. I was joined by Preschool Director, Lori Chronister, and Assistant Direct, Angel Castro, for the ribbon cutting. We wish Kidz First Academy great success!

Muni Band Concert at Eldo Park TONIGHT!

The second of two ”America the Beautiful” concerts in Council District 4 takes place tonight, July 3rd, at El Dorado Park West! Join in the “flag-waving” sounds of the Long Beach Municipal Band as we celebrate their 117th season. Tonight's concert at Eldo Park West begins at 6:30 pm. Bring blankets, chairs and picnic style dinners and snacks and enjoy an evening of free live music in Long Beach Parks! 

VA Long Beach 4th of July Celebration!

Tanabata Festival at the Japanese Garden

Join the EBM Japanese Garden to celebrate the Tanabata Festival! According to legend, the two stars Orihime and Hikoboshi, which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet. Enjoy live music, crafts and activities in the lush garden. Soccer in the LBC at El Dorado Park West

During Soccer in the LBC, the City of Long Beach has been hosting Matches in the Park. On Monday, July 6th, El Dorado Park West will be hosting a community watch party for one of the quarter final games. The community watch party will have a live big-screen as well as group activities for youth hosted by the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine.

This is a free event similar to Movies in the Park: bring your own lawn chair and picnic items.

The Summer Concert Series is back at the Japanese Garden, taking place every Friday from July 10 through August 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. At only $10 per person, guests are welcome to bring blankets or chairs, as well as their own food and beverages, to enjoy while listening to live music and taking in the beautiful views as the sun sets over the Garden.
