CD4 Harbor Tour Recap

Thank you to all the residents of Council District 4 who participated in Thursday night's harbor tour. The weather was fantastic, and we enjoyed stunning views of the Port of Long Beach including the International Gateway Bridge. CD4 staff worked diligently to invite residents from the waiting list as cancelations came in up to the final hours. CD4 FY 2027 Congressional Earmarks

Last week, the City Manager released a memo providing a summary of projects submitted by the City to Congress for funding consideration. This year, Congressman Garcia’s office reached out to our office for input, and we provided a list of projects needing almost $15M in funding in CD4. Of 21 citywide projects submitted to Congress, 12 have advanced to the appropriations committee for further consideration. Of the 12, we are pleased to share 2 are in CD4: the Atherton Safety Improvement project (crosswalk at Britton Dr.) and College Estates Park improvements. Each project was allocated $850,000. The allocation may change as these projects still need to be incorporated into the FY27 Federal budget. An additional memo will be released later in the Summer with a final update. All Fireworks are Illegal in Long Beach

There was recently talk of allowing “Safe & Sane” fireworks in Long Beach, but that is not happening. The City will be adhering to the existing policy that was revised five years ago. In an effort to bolster fireworks-related enforcement throughout the city, City Council unanimously approved an enhanced fireworks ordinance within the City Health and Safety Code, outlined in Long Beach Municipal Code Chapter 8.81. This action created a new fireworks ordinance specific to Long Beach and expanded the scope of liability and penalties associated with illegal fireworks activity. Read more using this link.

Organics and Recycling Inspections

Commercial accounts through July 1st

The City began its annual commercial route review on June 15th as required under SB 1383, organics recycling law. This includes cart and bin inspections for both City‑serviced commercial accounts and those served by permitted private haulers. Inspectors will leave printed tags on containers where contamination is found. No fines will be issued during this review cycle. Approximately 190 City‑serviced accounts and 150 private‑hauler accounts will be included in the inspection sample. Commercial accounts with questions about the process or future notices may contact the City at LBRecycles@longbeach.gov or their hauler, depending on their private hauler.

Model T Hill Climb Event TOMORROW!

The Signal Hill Model T race is back again to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States. The event will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 27th! The iconic race will have double the participants this year, and there will be more cars on display. The border between Signal Hill and Long Beach is the centerline of Hill street. Fourth of July Holiday Closures

Friday, July 3rd & Saturday, July 4th



City Hall offices and public services will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, including commercial services typically available in the City Hall lobby in observance of the Fourth of July Holiday. There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Friday, July 3rd. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Monday, July 6th. Trash and Recycling will be collected as scheduled on Friday, July 3rd. Closures also include all library branches on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th. Libraries are not open Sundays per normal schedule. Find all closures at the press release here. The City is encouraging residents and visitors to celebrate safely on July 4th to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe holiday. REMINDER: All personal fireworks are prohibited within Long Beach city limits and residents can expect ongoing citywide enforcement of the City’s fireworks ordinance. Tanabata Festival at the Japanese Garden

Join the EBM Japanese Garden to celebrate the Tanabata Festival! According to legend, the two stars Orihime and Hikoboshi, which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet. Enjoy live music, crafts and activities in the lush garden. Evening Music in the EBM Japanese Garden

The Summer Concert Series is back at the Japanese Garden, taking place every Friday from July 10 through August 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. At only $10 per person, guests are welcome to bring blankets or chairs, as well as their own food and beverages, to enjoy while listening to live music and taking in the beautiful views as the sun sets over the Garden. The Garden is at its most beautiful in the evenings, as the sun is setting. Parking in lot G4 is complimentary thanks to sponsorship from the LB Community Foundation.
