Highway 105A Construction UPDATE

June 3, 2024

Removal of Temporary Roundabout at Lake Woodmoor and Woodmoor Intersection

On June 6, the temporary roundabout at the intersection of Woodmoor Drive and Lake Woodmoor Drive will be removed.

  • The temporary roundabout was used to help facilitate the closures of Knollwood Blvd. and East Lake Woodmoor Dr., as Woodmoor Dr. and Lake Woodmoor Dr. are the specified detour routes. The use was particularly helpful while schools were in session.
  • As schools are now on summer break and Hwy 105 detours during the 2024/2025 school year are not anticipated, the roundabout will be removed.
  • Public feedback was received while the temporary roundabout was in place. It will be used to evaluate a potential permanent roundabout in the future. The majority of citizens providing comments were in favor of the roundabout.
  • The public feedback we received was a combination of positive and negative responses. The primary complaint was that drivers failed to yield and were driving at excessive speeds, making it difficult for other motorists to safely enter the roundabout. The most common positive comment was that the roundabout has a lot of potential if motorists adhered to the traffic laws.
  • A decision has not been made on whether a permanent roundabout will be installed. However, should a permanent roundabout be built, it would be expected to occur 1-2 years after establishing a budget, project design, and scheduling for installation.

The estimated schedule is based on the best information available at this time and is weather and resource-dependent.

We are continually monitoring traffic control and making changes as needed to minimize impacts as much as possible.

Construction of Highway 105 improvements will continue early into 2025.

MULTIPLE ROADWAY AND UTILITY PROJECTS

There are multiple roadway and utility projects both underway and planned for this area of the community being led by different jurisdictions. The project teams are coordinating efforts to minimize impacts to the traveling public as much as is possible. ALTERNATE ROUTES, IF POSSIBLE, ARE HIGHLY ADVISED.

Highway 105A Construction (Project B) – El Paso County (Construction duration: July 24, 2023 – expected to continue into 2025)

The project extends the 4-lane section of Highway 105 just east of Jackson Creek Parkway to Lake Woodmoor Drive, providing for greater mobility by accommodating more traffic. The new configuration will be two lanes in each direction with left and right turn lanes. The project also includes multi-use shoulders and pedestrian improvements, sidewalk connectivity, replacement of the traffic signal at Knollwood Boulevard, a new underground drainage system, and water quality pond, and a new roundabout at the Knollwood/Village Ridge Point intersection. The new roundabout coupled with new queuing lanes being constructed by Monument Academy are designed to keep traffic moving and reduce the traffic backups on Highway 105 that have previously occurred in this area.
