(All schedules are weather and resource dependent)

Airport Road reopens west of South Academy Boulevard and closes on the east side

On Sunday, July 28 Airport Road will reopen west of South Academy Boulevard. Then, both eastbound and westbound Airport Road traffic will be fully closed east of South Academy Boulevard. This will allow crews to complete underground utility reconstruction and intersection improvements (needed to fully reopen the intersection). This closure will be in place through mid-September.

Airport Road motorists are advised to detour north to Pikes Peak Avenue via South Academy Boulevard and Murray Boulevard for east and west access. All businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the closure; access from South Academy Boulevard is advised. Access will be maintained to all businesses between Ruskin Drive and South Academy Boulevard from Airport Road.

Paving operations on South Academy Boulevard between Bijou Street and Airport Road

Crews will work to pave the new roadway and install permanent lane markings on South Academy Boulevard between Bijou Street and Airport Road over the next few months. Nighttime full closures of South Academy Boulevard will be implemented mid-August to expedite paving activities.

South Academy Boulevard between Jet Wing Drive and Hancock Expressway

Construction activities are wrapping up on South Academy Boulevard between Jet Wing Drive and Hancock Expressway and on Boychuck Avenue to the west. In the coming days, crews will remove temporary traffic control devices and fully reopen the travel lanes to their permanent alignment.

The South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project addresses aging pavement, curb and gutter, and improves drainage along the project corridor. To provide for better multi-modal and pedestrian access, a new multi-use path is being constructed on one side of Academy Boulevard. Due to existing drainage issues and occasional occurrences of standing water in the roadway, significant drainage improvements are being made.

This is a voter-approved, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) A-listed project. Estimated cost to address aging pavement, curb and gutter, and improve drainage along the project corridor: $62 million.
