Striping operations on South Academy Boulevard

between Bijou Street and Airport Road

Paving operations are complete on the new South Academy Boulevard roadway between Bijou Street and Airport Road. On the nights of Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4 crews will stripe the new final lane lines and fully open South Academy Boulevard traffic from south of Pikes Peak Avenue to Bijou Street into final alignment. Both directions of traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction at Airport Road to support underground work through September.

Airport Road closed east of South Academy Boulevard

Both directions of Airport Road traffic remains fully closed east of South Academy Boulevard to allow crews to complete underground utility reconstruction and intersection improvements to open the intersection fully. This closure will be in place through September. Airport Road motorists are advised to detour north to Pikes Peak Avenue via South Academy Boulevard and Murray Boulevard for east and west access. The South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project addresses aging pavement, curb and gutter, and improves drainage along the project corridor. To provide for better multi-modal and pedestrian access, a new multi-use path is being constructed on one side of Academy Boulevard. Due to existing drainage issues and occasional occurrences of standing water in the roadway, significant drainage improvements are being made.



This is a voter-approved, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) A-listed project. Estimated cost to address aging pavement, curb and gutter, and improve drainage along the project corridor: $62 million.
