Greetings!

The Society of Television Engineers invites you to our upcoming presentation on Thursday, June 18th, 2026, at the Elks Lodge in Glendale.

Topic:

Beyond Pixels: Mastering a better SDR and HDR using HDR

Overview:

At the upcoming STE meeting on June 18th, imaging pioneer Joe Kane explores how modern UHD and HDR have turned the electronic canvas into a confusing "Pandora’s Box"; of technical options.

Kane demystifies these complex formats by viewing them through the timeless lens of traditional film heritage and pure artistic intent. He discusses that mastering today's imaging standards is less about chasing extreme display Pixels and far more about harnessing high bit

depth.

Attendees will discover how the PQ system strategically allocates 50% of its digital steps to the lowest 1% of the dynamic range, providing unparalleled shadow detail where the heart of the story lives. Kane will also demonstrate how high-bit-depth HDR workflows can fundamentally improve the contrast and clarity of legacy SDR deliverables.

Don’t miss this insightful presentation and the opportunity to network and exchange information in the media industry.

Mr. Kane specializes in the sciences of electronic imaging, accurately reproducing video on display devices. Those efforts have been the focus of his company, Joe Kane Productions, (JKP) since its founding in 1982.

We are now engaged in solving issues in creating content for the many domains of program distribution and creating motion materials to make it easier to identify the usefulness of particular displays as a reference canvas in any of these domains. We are currently focused on UHD SDR and HDR content creation as well as developments in UHD displays.
