On Monday evening, we'll continue where we left off examining the "ultimate" meditation instruction from The Seven Points of Mind Training. This beautiful text is the cornerstone of the "mind training" (Tib. lojong) tradition. We'll explore the key meditation instruction, "examine the nature of unborn awareness." Please take part in what promises to be a most enlightening discussion.

All are welcome to come at 6:15 for tea and conversation

Here is the recording of last week's teaching.

Guiding Lineage Teachers: Our annual fundraiser to support our teachers has begun. Please join us in supporting the sons of Tulku Ugyen Rinpoche in their vital work caring for monks, nuns, and communities throughout the Himalayas. Every contribution, regardless of amount, makes a meaningful difference. Your generous support would be deeply appreciated.

A crystal takes on the color of the cloth upon which it is placed, whether white, yellow, red, or black. Likewise, the people you spend your time with, whether their influence is good or bad, will make a huge difference to the direction your life and practice take. Spending time with true spiritual friends will fill you with love for all beings and help you to see how negative attachment and hatred are. Being with such friends and following their example will naturally imbue you with their good qualities, just as all the birds flying around a golden mountain are bathed in its golden radiance.

Contemplation of the Week - The Kindnesses of Others

In the days to come, at home, or whenever you are out and about, take a moment to notice the delicious food that you’re eating, or the delicious special drink that you’re drinking. For just a moment, imagine the many, many people who made it possible for you to enjoy whatever it is that you’re enjoying. Think of all of the people who grew the coffee, who harvested the beans and transported them from so far away. Notice the enthusiastic baristas, who are trying to make sure that the coffee is prepared in exactly the way you like. Bring to mind the fact that for you to enjoy a simple cup of coffee takes a kind of miraculous coming together of other’s hard work, care and creativity. Now, for a moment, just bring to mind the fact that our life and well-being is only made possible by the contributions of this vast web of unseen friends. Take a moment to recall that that, indeed, we truly are a “gathering of the kindnesses of others.” Remaining present to this truth throughout our day is, itself, enlightening
