Coming up at The Buddhist Center

Monday, December 11, 2023

In-Person and Online at 6:30pm (MST)

On Monday night we'll continue our exploration of the "Four Boundless Attitudes" - love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. These attitudes are the very heart of the Buddha's teaching. These qualities are nurtured along the path and, at the same time, they are the spontaneous expression of our own innate wisdom and compassion. Please join in.

Feel free to come at 6:15 for tea/snacks and to hang out.

Everyone is homesick because our true home is inside us, and until we recognize that, we will long for comfort outside ourselves. The issue is whether we set out for home on the right or wrong path. Taking refuge connects us to the right path.

Saljay Rinpoche

Saljay Rinpoche (1910-1991) was one of the most renowned meditators of the Kagyu lineage, a consummate yogi who spent half his life in retreat. Born in Nangchen, a remote region in Eastern Tibet, Saljey Rinpoche was recognized as a reincarnate lama by the 15th Karmapa, Khakhyap Dorje. While Saljey Rinpoche was an incredibly learned scholar, he was even better known for his deep meditative realization, born of the many years he spent in strict retreat and for his mastery of Mahamudra and the Six Yogas of Naropa, two of the most profound practices of the Kagyu lineage. Saljay Rinpoche was the retreat master in Mingyur Rinpoche’s 3 year retreat.

Contemplation of the Week - Holding the World in Our Heart

This week, from time to time, as you go about your day, bring to mind the profound ‘boundless attitude’ of loving-kindness. Whenever you encounter someone, simply recall their shared desire to be happy and free of suffering and say to yourself, “May this person be happy and at ease”. Allow this to open you up and to compassionately connect with your world.
