Whatever arises is fresh-the essence of realization.

Contemplation of the Week - Finding Home

The essential intent of the Buddha’s teaching and the path to awakening is to help us to discover the nature of mind and to enjoy the freedom that this discovery brings us. Although it may sound like a lofty endeavor, mind’s nature can be found in, and only in, the everyday movements of our mind. From time to time, on the cushion or as you go about your day, take a moment to notice if your mind is moving (thinking/imagining), or still. If your mind is moving, rather than trying to stop it, notice the background awareness that notices the movement. If your mind is still, notice the background awareness that knows that your mind is still. This “knowingness” is always with us, but we don’t notice it. From time to time, simply notice this ever present awareness. This is the gateway through which we discover our unchanging, unwavering nature. This is our home.
