YOUR PASTOR'S MUSING

A buddy of mine is in a profession in which he daily encounters what he terms “the firehose of human misery.” At the same time, he enjoys his lovely family, including the cutest kid who tugs on his leg while he and I are talking.

The firehose of human misery is always flowing. On any given Sunday, a number of worshippers will come to church carrying their grief like a low-slung satchel over their shoulders. God’s love is entangled with such weighty burdens. As sung in the old hymn, “sorrow and love flow mingled down.” It may be that our paying attention to the tug, whether at our legs or our hearts, alerts us to the presence of something heavenly in the earth.

This past Sunday, there were six minutes before the start of the worship service, and I had nine things to do, half of which I attempted to accomplish at once. I rushed through the narthex and, by the double doors to the sanctuary, heard a small voice. I mumbled a reply, intending to continue forward.

Then the same small voice filled my ears: “I said, ‘Good morning!’”

I whirled around and caught the look of a young disciple, grinning at me.

“Good! Morning!” I laughed, suddenly all exclamation points.

In hope,

Andrew

NEW! This Sunday!

Do you care about the environment and connect your experience of faith to nature? If so, “Wild Church” is for you!

May 2 from 1 to 4 pm

This is NOT your “typical” online meeting! Read this message from the director below, then reach out to Andrew if you are interested in participating!

Hello Wild Hearts!

I am looking forward to sharing about Wild Church and eco-spirituality together on May 2, and hearing about your interest or calling. What has the earth and spirit been calling forth in you? This will be a participatory mini-retreat rather than a webinar where I am the only one speaking. While I will share for part of the time (and may have some slides), it will also be conversational and include you.

Here are a few things to know beforehand:

  • Please bring a small stone with you from your watershed
  • Please be situated in a space where you can be uninterrupted and fully present (if at all possible!)
  • We will be leaving our screens for 45 minutes to participate in a 'wandering' where we will all go outside wherever we are to be led by nature to listen and respond to the sacred conversations going on around us all the time.
  • There will be different movements of our time together: Learn about the Wild Church Network and what we mean by 'wild church.' Learn some eco-spiritual practices. Time for a wandering (core to every wild church). And time for sharing and questions.

Bring your full self, your questions, your open seeking hearts.

Valerie Luna Serrels, Director

Wild Church Network

This special concert is a benefit concert providing scholarships to local high school students wishing to pursue further studies in music. There will be some CITP folks singing in the concert!
