Traffic Signal Update: Santa Teresa Boulevard

The City of Gilroy is responding to two new traffic signal equipment failures along Santa Teresa Boulevard, at the intersections of Day Road West and Sunrise Drive. These failures are affecting the video detection systems that help manage traffic flow, resulting in inefficient signal timing and increased congestion.

City staff are actively working with the traffic signal maintenance contractor to address these new issues. Unfortunately, due to ongoing industry-wide supply chain delays, the necessary replacement parts continue to have long lead times. The contractor currently estimates that the parts are on their way and installation is anticipated to be completed by mid-December.

In the meantime, there has been progress: the signals at Santa Teresa Boulevard/Longmeadow Drive and Princevalle Street/Luchessa Avenue have been successfully repaired and are now operating normally.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience as work continues to restore full signal functionality along the corridor.

For questions regarding this issue, please contact our Engineering team at 408-846-0223.

Del Rey Park Project Update

The Del Rey Park Project has experienced delays with the installation of the new playground but is now underway, with an anticipated opening date of December 12.

During the beginning of construction, the removal of the old playground revealed some complications with the planned installation, which temporarily paused the project.

During construction, the playground area will remain closed to the public; however, the rest of the park will stay open.

This park improvement project reflects the City’s commitment to safety and enhancing the park experience for all families.

Ask Gilroy: Your City, Your Questions!

Thank you to everyone who submitted questions this week!

We've provided answers to some of the questions below, and look forward to more questions this week.

❓Why does the signal light at Santa Teresa Blvd and Day Rd West ALWAYS take SO LONG in the southbound direction especially in the afternoon commute? It also takes a long time making the left from eastbound Day Rd to northbound Santa Teresa Blvd. It has been like this for several weeks now

The traffic signal at Santa Teresa Boulevard and Day Road recently experienced an equipment failure with the video detection system. Due to the failure, the signal has been placed on a timer, resulting in less-than-desirable signal timing and traffic congestion.

City staff are actively working with the traffic signal maintenance contractor to address this issue. Replacement parts are on their way, and installation is anticipated to be completed by mid-December.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience we complete this work.
