On January 14, we received a request from a pediatric social worker at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital seeking items for a 3-year-old girl with leukemia named Ezranique. Her mom and Ezranique were unexpectedly staying in NYC while visiting friends on vacation and found themselves in need of basic items and warmer clothes for an extended stay.
To assist them during their stay at the Ronald McDonald House, we placed an order on Amazon for a stroller, diapers, boots, coat, pajamas, and a hoodie. However, during the checkout process, we overlooked changing the shipping address. Unfortunately, all the items were delivered to Hicksville, creating an urgent need to get them to the family as soon as possible.
In a moment of distress, we reached out to one of our community partners at Amazon and explained the situation to Tom Higgins, who serves as both a manager and volunteer for MMF and works at Amazon. Tom promptly reassured me, saying, "No worries, Amazon will pick everything up and deliver it to the facility tomorrow." we were immensely grateful for his quick and supportive response.
Tom further shared that Amazon is committed to assisting with logistics for charitable organizations on Long Island. He explained that Amazon routinely coordinates pickups and drop-offs for various initiatives, including coat drives, Toys for Tots, and transporting food donations from collection points to food banks.
After consulting with drivers, Tom happily arranged for my items to be routed onto a van headed into Manhattan, ensuring a timely delivery for our little warrior. A heartfelt thank you to Tom, his team, and Amazon for their invaluable role as community partners in supporting charitable endeavors.
