Shutdown looms: time to

return Dems to power!

Dear Democrat,

At a time when we need unity and leadership, our nation has been abandoned by the GOP. We have no Speaker in the House, legislation cannot be introduced or passed, we are edging ever closer to a government shutdown, and Congress is paralyzed as we respond to the war in Israel.

What a relief it would be to have Democrats back in power.

In 2024, we need to win the Presidency and both houses of Congress. We need to elect school board members who have the best interests of our kids at heart.

We can do it, and we have begun that work.

Let’s win back California’s CD-22

We need to win 5 seats to take back the House in 2024, and the path to that majority once again runs through the 22nd congressional district in the southern Central Valley.

As in every election cycle since 2018, we are working with Democrats in Kings and Kern counties to help defeat Republican David Valadao, who lost his seat in 2018 but narrowly won it back in 2020.

This September, our party leaders in Kings and Kern counties came to our Democratic Victory Dinner, where we raised $5,000 for their Central Committees.

We invite you to donate as well. What you give will make a difference: In 2020 the Kings County Democrats used a similar donation to post a “dump Trump, vote Democratic” message on a large billboard!

Vote for Lisanna Dominguez on Nov. 7

In a special election this Nov. 7, Lisanna Dominguez is running for a seat on the San Jose Evergreen Community College District’s board of trustees. Omar Torres vacated this seat when he won a spot on the San Jose City Council.

Whoever wins the election will get to vote on who to appoint as the district’s new chancellor. The SCCDP has endorsed Dominguez. If you live in this district, vote for Lisanna!

Fight intolerance on local school boards

In our September newsletter, we wrote about MAGA forces in San Jose and Santa Clara pushing for so-called parental rights in schools that in reality are a direct attack on our vulnerable LGBTQ youth.

Democrats for Public Education, one of SCCDP’s chartered clubs, is fighting back, correcting misinformation on their Facebook page. The club is also preparing a tool kit to help communities in Silicon Valley organize to protect the safety and privacy of our kids.

“The more informed people are, the more prepared they can be,” said Ava Chiao, president of Democrats for Public Education.

The club is also raising awareness that school board members can legally throw out disrupters, after the signing last year of Senate Bill 1100, sponsored by state Senator Dave Cortese and Assemblymember Evan Low, both Democrats from Silicon Valley.

Stay aware of what’s happening in your community.

Reach out to Santa Clara County voters

We’re doing voter outreach at various tabling events in Santa Clara County. We register voters and provide information about the challenges our democracy faces.

We kicked off the year at the Berryessa Art Festival in May and have been to 7 other events so far. We’ve tabled in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Gilroy, and Mountain View, at festivals to celebrate the Fourth of July and more.

On Nov. 19, we will partner with our East Valley Democratic Club at the Evergreen Farmers Market. Help us plant the seeds for a healthy future - while having great conversations with community members. Sign up here.

Democratic Victory Dinner a Success

More than 450 guests joined us at our 32nd annual fundraising dinner last month at downtown San Jose’s Signia by Hilton, formerly the Fairmont.

We heard from local elected officials and our keynote speaker, Attorney General Rob Bonta.

We gave a lifetime achievement award to County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, a volunteer-of-the-year award to Jacquie Wheeler, and the inaugural “Fearless Leader” award to SCCDP Treasurer Angelica Ramos for her courageous leadership in both the Democratic Party and in the women’s rights movement.

We recognized the Silicon Valley Working Blue Democratic Club as the “Club of the Year” for its work on the annual summer “All Clubs” picnic.

Congratulations to our award-winners and thanks to all for our successes. We need each and every one of you, doing whatever it is you’re comfortable with to help us turn the tide.
