Take Action with Us

for Suicide Prevention Month

Suicide Prevention Month 2025

As we approach Suicide Prevention Month (#SPM25) and Suicide Prevention Week (Sept. 7-13), the Action Alliance is dedicated to bringing the field together to amplify messages about the significant role we all play in supporting each other. It is important that we continue working together to develop and promote consistent messages of hope and help-seeking.

The Action Alliance will share resources, messaging guidance, and opportunities for engagement throughout September on social media, centered around the following key calls to action:

Take action to prevent suicide in your community.

#BeThere for those who are affected by suicide.

Develop effective messaging for suicide prevention, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988messaging.org.

Join the Action Alliance and our partners to help educate the public about actions anyone, anywhere can take to help someone feel more hopeful, engage in help-seeking behaviors, and build resilience.

Recognizing the Second Annual 988 Day

Monday, September 8 (9/8) marks the second annual 988 Day (#988Day), a national day of action dedicated to raising awareness about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and promoting compassionate, accessible, judgment-free mental health support.

This year’s theme is “Compassionate Help. Anytime. Anywhere.” It highlights the Lifeline’s commitment to providing empathetic, reliable support wherever and whenever people need it. With a network of over 15,000 trained counselors, 988 continues to ensure compassionate, non-judgmental help is available to everyone.

To help spread the word, the 988 Day Digital Toolkit is now available, offering creative assets and ideas to support your outreach on social media, in your community, or within your organization.

How You Can Get Involved:

  • Mark your calendar for September 8 and plan to participate in 988 Day activities.
  • Use #988Day on social media to help spread awareness and amplify the message.
  • Visit the 988 Day website to learn more and see how communities across the country are taking action.

New Resource: Foundations of

Lived Experience in Suicide Prevention

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) recently launched a compelling video project that highlights pioneering leaders who helped shape and grow the suicide-centered lived experience movement.

Through their powerful insights, the video traces the early efforts that laid the groundwork for today’s best practices and explores what’s next for the field. It’s a timely and inspiring resource for anyone working to center lived experience in suicide prevention strategy and messaging.

The video, along with SPRC’s Suicide Prevention Month Ideas for Action guide, offers tangible ways to involve people with lived experience and create messaging that is authentic, inclusive, and impactful.
