Weekend Happenings

“Let us be renewed by God’s mercy… and let us become agents of this mercy.” – Pope Francis

We look forward to seeing you at Mass this weekend for Divine Mercy Sunday as we worship together and come together as a community!

SATURDAY

  • Prayer for Peace – If you couldn’t join Thursday’s vigil or want to continue praying together, please join us as we gather in the chapel on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. We’ll pray the Rosary alongside our newly initiated members of the OCIA community, uniting as one Church in prayer for peace in solidarity with the global Church and the Holy Father. As Pope Leo XIV has urged, let us “make heard the cry for peace that springs from our hearts,” trusting in the peace that Christ alone can give.

SUNDAY

  • Service Day registration closes on Sunday so be sure to SIGN UP TODAY to join us on April 25 as we share hope through service throughout Chicagoland! Learn more here.
  • Coffee & Donuts on the plaza returns this Sunday after the morning Masses. Want to help make it happen? Sign up to volunteer here!
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word will be offered for ages 3-6 at our 9:30 a.m. Masses.
  • High School Youth Group will meet from 5:30-7:00 p.m. New to the group? Pre-registration is appreciated to ensure we have enough food.
  • Sundays Uncorked - Following 7:00 p.m. Mass relax and recharge with fellow community members offsite at Bad Apple.

This weekend's Staff Scripture Reflection is written by Margaret Gilman, Interim Director of Religious Education. She shares, "[W]e must remember that we are called to bring peace. This happens through our actions, our smiles, a shared conversation or meal, words of encouragement, showing up for someone who is hurting. It is in experiencing together our shared humanity of blessings and struggle that we will live the words Jesus taught us, 'Peace be with you.'”

For this weekend's presider schedule, Mass intentions, and prayer lists, please see our Worship & Sacraments section below.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

“All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of Creation.”

– Pope Francis

Creation Care Corner

What the Saints say about Caring for Creation

Pope Saint John Paul II - The visible world is like a map pointing to heaven…. We learn to see the Creator by contemplating the beauty of his creatures. In this world the goodness, wisdom, and almighty power of God shine forth. And the human intellect …can discover the Artist’s hand in the wonderful works which he has made. Reason can know God through the Book of Nature.”

Saint Hildegard of Bingen - “Every creature is a glittering, glistening mirror of divinity.” “Creation is the song of God.” “The Earth sustains humanity. It must not be injured; it must not be destroyed.”

Saint Francis of Assisi- “If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”

Saint Irenaeus of Lyons -“The initial step for a soul to come to knowledge of God is contemplation of nature.”

Pope Saint Paul IV - “Due to an ill-considered exploitation of nature, humanity runs the risk of destroying it and becoming in turn a victim of this degradation.”

Pope Saint John Paul II -“... humanity has disappointed God’s expectations. Man, especially in our time, has without hesitation devastated wooded plains and valleys, polluted waters, disfigured the earth’s habitat, made the air unbreathable . . .”

Invitation and Accompaniment

Latest Episode of the Magnified Ministries Podcast

Fr. Peter and Marco Oropeza open the April series by exploring how the Church invites and accompanies people into faith today. At the center is a simple truth: people are still drawn to God, but they need someone to walk with them for faith to truly take root.

The conversation looks at the beauty and mystery of the Catholic faith, and how curiosity can quickly turn into confusion without accompaniment. Faith is not just information, but relationship and lived experience.

They also reflect on Pope Francis’ call to accompaniment and how Gen Z is drawn to transcendence, sacramentality, and mystery, but needs these realities translated into real encounter.

In the end, everything in the Church leads to one goal: an encounter with the risen Lord through prayer, community, healing, and the life of the Spirit.

This Week's Staff Prayer Intention

Each week, we share a common intention that individuals, staff, ministry groups, and our wider parish family can lift up in prayer—at Mass, in meetings, during personal devotions, and on social media.

As Jesus promises us in Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

For the week of April 12, we pray that the healing power of the Risen Lord may renew hearts burdened by grief, division, or fear, bringing peace and wholeness to our homes, our Church, and our world.

Mass Intentions

We invite you to honor a loved one who has passed or offer prayers for those who are sick or in need of blessing and healing through a Mass Intention. Requesting a Mass intention means you are asking that the grace of Christ’s sacrifice in His death and resurrection be applied for a particular purpose—whether for the repose of the soul of the deceased or for the healing and well-being of someone in need. The names of Mass intentions are read aloud during Mass.

To schedule your intentions, please visit, email, or call the parish office. You may also schedule your intention online or via our parish App.

This week, we will pray for the following intentions:

  • Sat 4/11 5:00pm - Raymond Franko (deceased) | Marguerite Quinn Zappa (Deceased) | Donald Phillips (Deceased)
  • Sun 4/12 8:00am - Elmer and Eileen Brooks(Deceased) | Tom Poehls(Deceased) | Donald Phillips (Deceased)

Habemus Papam: Three Journalists Weigh In On Pope Leo's First Year

April 15, 7:00 p.m., at Loyola University Chicago's Lakeshore campus

In less than 12 months since his election to the Chair of St. Peter, Pope Leo has continued Vatican reforms, personally reached out to the faithful in need of support, and inspired the Catholic faithful—both committed and lapsed. His influence has been felt outside of the Catholic Church through his ecumenical and interreligious dialogues, as well as his public ministry to the marginalized in Rome. To mark the one-year anniversary of Pope Leo’s election, The Hank Center will host a conversation focused on the first year of the Pope Leo’s reign: What has he accomplished? Where do we go from here? What remains to be done?

Journalists Colleen Dulle (America), Michael Sean Winters (National Catholic Reporter), and Gretchen Crowe (Our Sunday Visitor) will offer their take on Pope Leo’s first year. Dominic Preziosi (Commonweal) will moderate.
