THE CISC ONTARIO AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE GALA
AN EVENT CELEBRATING RESILIENCE AND EXCELLENCE
On Thursday, November 10, 2022, the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC-ICCA) Ontario held the CISC Ontario Awards for Excellence in Steel Construction, at Hotel X, at the Princess’ Gates Ballroom, at Hotel X, Exhibition Place in Toronto, offering a welcome cocktail and a gourmet buffe to a full house of guests.

The MC for the evening was Kaylyn Roloson, a quality control inspector for Walters Group; a true “Steel Girl”! The theme of the event was "SHOWCASING THE RESILIENCE OF STEEL", reiterating the leadership and contribution of the steel industry to the Ontario and Canadian economy as well as its North American footprint. The Ontario steel industry is resilient and as in other provinces, is a dynamic industry, a real driver of innovation, job creation and economic growth.

The CISC Awards for Excellence in Steel Construction is a signature and prestigious event. Teams are rewarded for delivering their exceptional steel projects, showcasing complexity, innovation, beauty, uniqueness, and originality, among many other attributes. The event highlighted amazing projects that demonstrate the beauty, resilience, and durability of steel, proving the benefits of choosing steel.

The Region Committee, Bill Munns, General Manager of M & G Steel, Paul Power, Preconstruction & Sales Manager, Canam Group and Scott Pope, Business Development Leader, ACL Steel, as well as Ed Whalen, President of the CISC and Dr. Hellen Christodoulou, Director of Steel Industry and Market Development, addressed their welcome messages to the participants. A tribute was also given for Remembrance Day, in honor of the courage and sacrifice of Canadian veterans; the men and women that have helped to ensure that we live in freedom and peace, while also fostering freedom and peace around the world.

Ontario teams were rewarded for their exceptional achievements in steel, presenting complex and innovative steel construction projects through their beauty, uniqueness, and originality, as each year, professionals. Amongst the submitted projects, this years’ winners were from the 34 finalists.

The distinguished jury selected winners in each of the 9 categories.

History of Strength Award 2022
The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Ontario Region presented two History of Strength Awards. The CISC History of Strength awards honor individuals that have made a significant contribution to the development, advancement, and success of the Canadian steel industry over a sustained period of years. The award recognizes individuals for their leadership and vision, within the structural steel design, construction, and academic community in Canada, who have been strong proponents and advocates of structural steel as a building material. This year’s winners were Paul Seibel, the founder and President of ACL Steel Ltd. and Ken Benson, Chairman of the Board, Benson Steel.
