CERT Urban Search and Rescue Drill Held October 25
On October 25, CERT volunteers from Burlingame, Hillsborough and Millbrae were invited to observe a countywide Urban Search and Rescue drill located in a building on Burlingame’s bayfront that is scheduled for demolition. During the exercise, firefighters from the Central County Fire Department (CCFD), as well as San Bruno, South San Francisco, Menlo Park, Woodside and the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, rescued two injured “victims” by punching a hole in an outside wall, then jackhammering an opening in a concrete floor. CCFD Chief Bruce Barron, Deputy Chief Ken Giacotto and Community Risk and Resiliency Specialist Dena Gunning explained what was going on. While the drill was in progress, everyone’s phones lit up with an alert that a 5.1 magnitude earthquake had occurred near San Jose.
For more information on the CERT program, including how to get involved, please visit the CCFD website.

Measure H Project Prioritization - HCSD requests your input!
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
Thank you again for your support of the HCSD Measure H General Obligation Bond that was passed this last June. Many of you will remember that we held over 40 meetings to develop the HCSD Facilities Master Plan in 2019. This plan is the foundation of our work moving forward. We have hired a Bond Program Manager (Van Pelt Construction Services) and a pool of architectural firms to help us with our work.
We also need your help! We invite you to join our Facilities Master Planning Team on November 10th to give your input on the prioritization of projects by school site. There are two meetings for each school site (duplicate meetings - you only need to attend one of the meetings) and then a meeting that will review all school sites (for those parents / community members who could not attend the earlier meetings). The meetings will be a hybrid format which will allow both in-person and Zoom participation.
Please click HERE. We welcome your input and participation in this exciting next step in upgrading our school facilities!
Thank you,
Louann
Louann Carlomagno, Ed.D.

| | Updated COVID-19 Boosters Encouraged | | |
County Health urges everyone 5 years and older to get the updated booster shot at least 2 months from their original COVID-19 vaccine or booster dose. Bivalent boosters, which are effective against both the original strain of the virus and the Omicron variants, are available from primary health care providers, such as Kaiser and Sutter, and pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS. County Health’s community clinics offer boosters and primary series (first and second doses). Appointments are available on MyTurn, though aren’t required.
| | |
Flu Shots Now Available
Flu shots are available to everyone over the age of 6 months at primary health care providers, retail pharmacies, or at County Health community flu clinics. Appointments are available at MyTurn. It takes a couple of weeks after the vaccination for the body to build immunity, so it’s best not to delay getting a shot. The symptoms for flu and COVID are similar, so being up to date with both vaccines (including the new COVID booster) can prevent serious illness this fall and winter.
