Hillsborough Beautification Foundation's Light Up the Town is November 30th

HBF’s annual winter event, “Light Up The Town” will take place at Town Hall on Thursday, November 30. To ensure “Light Up The Town” reflects the wonderful diversity of Hillsborough, HBF invites the community to participate in a reimagined event.

We look forward to celebrating with hot chocolate, cookies, Santa, and song — it will be “Light Up The Town” and more! HBF’s hope is to create a “Light Up The Town” that is representative of the variety of cultures in our community. Many religions and cultures celebrate light as we embark on winter, and we are inviting the whole of Hillsborough to shine together in celebration.

If you would like to host a table, offering a craft, snacks, or both to reflect your cultural traditions of light, HBF would like to hear from you. Please reach out to HBF by October 15th via email at hillsboroughbeautificationfoundation@yahoo.com or visit their website at www.hillsboroughbeautificationfoundation.org. HBF looks forward to all of Hillsborough coming together to “Light Up The Town.”

Easing the Transition to Clean Energy

The hottest temperatures on record, disastrous hurricanes and shocking wildfires are convincing more and more people to transition away from fossil fuels to clean energy. On Wednesday, October 18, two experts offer tips and describe incentives and cost savings that can help you make the switch.

This free program, “Rebates and Incentives to Help You Transition to Clean Energy,” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the zero-net-energy Burlingame Community Center at 850 Burlingame Ave. in Burlingame. It is presented by the Citizens Environmental Council and cosponsored by Burlingame’s Parks and Recreation DepartmentPeninsula Clean Energy, the Building Decarbonization Coalition and 350 Silicon Valley. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/CECelectrify.

Vanessa Shin, Community Outreach Specialist for Peninsula Clean Energy, and Friday Apaliski, Director of Communications for the Building Decarbonization Coalition, will discuss what electrification entails, why it’s important and how you can save money with rebates and incentives. Switching to an all-electric home can improve your indoor air quality, cut climate and air pollution, and help ensure your community is more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

The Citizens Environmental Council’s mission is to champion regional sustainability through education, advocate for environmental and climate policies, and empower young environmental leaders. For more information, visit cecburlingame.org or email info@cecburlingame.org.
