Protect Yourself Against Online Scams

Residents should be on high alert as there have been multiple reports of online scams. The recent scams appear to target older adults, resulting in at least one case in the County where a victim lost thousands of dollars.

  • Scammers prompted victims with a message on their computers stating that the device was comprised. The suspects then instructed the victims to withdraw a significant amount of money from their bank accounts, before directing them to use that money to purchase gift cards and deliver them to the scammers.

  • HPD utilizes all available resources to investigate these elaborate crimes. Residents can assist law enforcement by keeping the following safety tips in mind:
  • Never allow a stranger remote access to your computer.
  • If someone directs you to withdraw money from your account or purchase gift cards, stop immediately and call law enforcement.

Youth Climate Ambassadors Leadership Program

Applications for the 2024-25 Cohort are Now Open

Climate change is the issue of our time. While climate change will touch the lives of many, younger generations will be the ones to witness and experience some of the most extreme environmental changes due to a rapidly changing planet. Actions today play an important role in shaping the future of tomorrow. The Youth Climate Ambassadors (YCA) Leadership Program aims to ensure younger generations have the skills and knowledge to play a leadership role in taking action on climate change.

Together, Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame, Peninsula Clean Energy, San Mateo County Office of Education, and the County of San Mateo’s Sustainability Department have partnered to create the YCA Leadership Program to grow and support emerging climate leaders across San Mateo County.

The YCA Leadership Program brings 9-12th grade students from across San Mateo County together to empower youth to take climate action into their own hands. Through the program, students will develop projects designed to drive change within San Mateo County and gain a diverse set of skills related to sustainability and climate action. This program includes a mixture of learning opportunities and experiences, including:

The Town is Developing a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan

Take the Survey!

The Town is embarking on its first Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) with the goal of finding opportunities for new bicycle and pedestrian friendly pathways. The Town has winding streets without shoulders or sidewalks, which makes walking and biking safely a challenge. The objectives of the BPMP are to seek community feedback, develop recommendations for future network routes, and set progress and goals for implementation. The BPMP will also investigate safety data to propose impactful recommendations to establish big-picture planning in support of the Town’s long-term planning. As this project gets underway, there will be substantial opportunities for involvement at every stage.

We would love to hear your feedback! Please take a quick online survey to help us gather preliminary data.
