Hello, SoGES community,
As the fall semester begins, I'm energized by the opportunities for advancing climate and sustainability work together. This past summer, much of our focus was on shaping the future of the School. We updated our strategic plan, which I will share soon, and I am excited about the vision it lays out for advancing climate and sustainability education, research, and engagement at CSU. We also hired our first full-time Assistant Director of Education and Development, Dr. Sarah Badding. Please feel free to reach out and welcome Sarah to the SoGES community!
I'm writing you from New York Climate Week, where I'm connecting with leaders from other universities working on climate change and sustainability, and the importance of our work is clearer than ever. In a moment when these issues are at the center of political and public debate, we are reminded of the essential role universities play in educating future leaders, fueling innovation, and communicating science -- all of which depend on academic freedom, free speech, and open access to knowledge. At SoGES, we stand committed to protecting these values and ensuring that truth and knowledge remain at the core of solutions for a sustainable future.
This season, we are focused on connection. We're reconnecting alumni through our new Climate and Sustainability Alumni group on LinkedIn, making our programs easier to navigate with an updated website, and continuing to host conversations that bring together diverse voices around the grand challenges of our time. We continue to build community for graduate students, including a new forum for students owning on diverse aspects of climate adaptation. Thank you for being part of this community and for the ways you contribute to our shared mission. I invite you to engage with us -- attend an upcoming event, apply for our research opportunities, or share our work with your networks.
Looking forward to our ongoing work together,
Dr. Courtney Schultz
Director, School of Global Environmental Sustainability
