Library Seeks Volunteers for Adult Literacy Tutor Training

Make a difference in someone’s life — become a Volunteer Adult Literacy Tutor at Santa Barbara Public Library! New volunteers complete a 3-hour training and orientation to become a tutor, then personalized training and support before being matched with an adult learner. The next orientation session is August 19, at the Central Library.

Landscape Battery Reuse Program


Residents can now drop-off lawn and garden equipment batteries that are <300 watt hours to the Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center. Your batteries will be reused if possible or recycled into something new! Remember, it’s illegal to place batteries in the trash as they can start fires.

Venue Rental Discounts Offered to Residents and Nonprofits



Now is the time to book a venue for your holiday parties and year-end meetings, and the Parks and Recreation Department has plenty of options, including beachfront properties, historic landmarks, community centers, and group picnic sites. Discounts are available to all City residents and nonprofits, and rental fees help fund community programs offered by the Department.

Construction Notice: Milpas Street Sidewalk Repair


The City is currently conducting repairs to uplifted and uneven sidewalks on Milpas Street between Anapamu Street and Cabrillo Boulevard through early September. This area will be open to traffic, but please expect disruption to traffic flow and construction noise Monday through Friday 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this inconvenience.

August 16 is National Backflow Prevention Day. Water distribution systems are designed to deliver water safely from the treatment plant to the customer. Unless protected with a backflow prevention assembly, unintentional water contamination or “cross-connection” may occur if you have multiple uses on your property such as irrigation, fire lines, or a pool.
