NBA Legislative Update - April 1

FDIC Guidance on Multiple NSF Guidance 

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) discussed the practice of charging multiple non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees for transactions that have been presented multiple times against insufficient funds. The FDIC found the practice could lead to violations of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act and provided suggestions for mitigating the risk of violations.

Bill Introduced to Extend CFPB Authority to Nonbank Lenders

Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) recently introduced a bill to bring nonbank small business lenders under the supervision of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

OCC Releases Interest Rate Risk Data

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released its semiannual Interest Rate Risk Statistics Report. The information is collected during bank examinations and is published to establish the range of exposures and risk limits across midsize and community banks.

New Employee Spotlight: James Strickland

The NBA is pleased to welcome James Strickland as the VEBA Billing / Accounting Coordinator. His role includes: processing annual, monthly, supplemental and AD&D billings and verifying all enrollment and termination activity is included on the billings; processing termination of active enrollees; managing deposits, investments, balancing bank statements and issuing checks, as well as the month-end and year-end procedures.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role? I look forward to setting a solid foundation for a promising future.

Favorite thing(s) about Nebraska: My favorite thing is the sense of community. I like the small-town feel that Lincoln offers with the larger city offerings.

Hobbies: I like video games, working out, traveling and trying new places to eat.
