Lag Ba'Omer, Parasha Emor

SHABBAT SHALOM

שבת שלום

DAY 589

We continue to hope and pray for the release of the hostages.

They are front and center in our minds.

May God protect them from further harm.

May God shield the soldiers of the IDF so that they too,

can return back to their loved ones, in safety and wholeness.

AMEN!

Parasha Sheet sponsored by the Dickstein/Weinstein family to commemorate the yahrzeit of Stephanie's mother, Natalie Dickstein z"l.

Torah on Monday with Rabbi Malomet This story is so puzzling. Every phrase gives rise to another question. But at the heart of it, at least on this reading, is the question of what to do about this blasphemer. The fact that Moses does not have a quick answer, is really one of the great parts of the story. That's got to mean something.

Parasha Talk

We discuss the release of Idan Alexander, an American-Israeli who was held captive for 583 days, the complexities of Israeli and American citizenship. On Emor we discuss the story involving the man who blasphemed and what it means for all of us.

MORNING MINYAN NEEDS SOME SUPPORT!

On-line or In-person

We're grateful to our minyan "regulars" but even they sometimes can't be here. We want to be sure we have a morning minyan every day; we know those saying kaddish are especially appreciative. Morning services are egalitarian.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

TORAH TIME & MINI MINYAN??

We are so blessed to have two Shabbat and Yom Tov morning services for our youth: Dr. Marlene Herman and Ezra Kress leading Torah Time and Leah Zinder, our youth engagement coordinator, and Gamliel Nelkin leading Mini Minyan

We now have descriptions of each program, which should help congregants and visitors identify the best service for their children, grandchildren or other youth accompanying them to services.

These descriptions are guidelines; they include the “skill set” the child should have, the general or typical age of the children attending and whether they are accompanied by an adult.

These are "guidelines;" a child might be best suited for the program that's different than where they might fit by age. It’s our hope that the children in each program will benefit if each child goes to the Shabbat program that is the best fit for them.

TORAH TIME with Dr. Marlene Herman and Ezra

SCHWARTZMAN LIBRARY UPDATE

new Oct. 7-themed additions to our library collection

The library committee will be adding many new titles throughout the collection in the coming months. Be sure to check out the rotating displays featuring a combination of new and timely books.

Would you like to suggest a title for purchase or donate books? Monetary donations to the Library Fund can be made on-line and through the Temple office. Book donations need to be approved by the library committee. Send a list of titles and authors to Carla Herniter or Marsha Goldwasser for consideration.

As a reminder, due to our limited space please do NOT bring books to the Temple for donation; all Library book donations must be approved by Carla.

SCREAMS BEFORE SILENCE

Never-before-heard eyewitness accounts from released hostages, survivors, and first responders.

During the October 7 attacks on Israeli towns and at the Nova Music Festival, women and girls were raped, assaulted, and mutilated. Released hostages have revealed that Israeli captives in Gaza have also been sexually assaulted.

Despite the indisputable evidence, these atrocities have received little scrutiny from human rights groups and international organizations. Many leading figures in politics, academia, and media have attempted to minimize or even deny that they occurred. In Screams Before Silence, a 60-minute, presenter-led documentary film, Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Meta and founder of LeanIn.org, interviews multiple eyewitnesses, released hostages, first responders, medical and forensic experts, and survivors of the Hamas massacres.
