Opening Prayer
Earth
You are wise
Let us surrender to Your wisdom
Help us walk with reverence
Remembering
Stories of Ancestors
Held in Your layers
Help us walk with reverence
Remembering
Your wondrous power
To hold
To sustain
To become
Help us walk with reverence
Remembering
The magnificence of magma
Your tectonic plates
Moving and holding us in place
Everything is growing and dying
And growing again
Help us walk with reverence
Remembering
In You all is Grace
Awaken us
Let us Listen
Root us like a trees
In You
Then birds and songs
Will find their home in us
And we
In You

Leadership Coaching Project
We are all aware that the only person we can truly change is ourselves. As we work on improving ourselves, we can more intentionally serve and influence others. Coaching is a gift that you give yourself for self-improvement. In combination with other self-care and self-improvement activities (finding a mentor, having a spiritual director, working with a therapist), coaching can be life changing in how you approach your challenges and prospects. Talk with a coach today to see how to capitalize on this opportunity.
Coaching is a dialogue between a coach and an individual, group, or team to find creative ways to solve challenging problems or improve team performance on key initiatives.
The coach's role is to draw out expertise through inquiry, curiosity, and challenges so that clients can stretch into their best selves.
Lay leaders, deacons, priests, and bishops are all invited to consider coaching. The focus on coaching will always be generated by the coachee; the coach is a partner who listens deeply and asks powerful questions to help the coachee set attainable and timely goals.

Province V Executive Board
The Province V Executive Board held its annual, in-person meeting at the Procter Center in Southern Ohio over three days in early April. The in-person meeting allows Board members to re-connect and get to know each other better than the regular monthly Zoom meetings do. The in-depth conversations that occur in person produce a more cohesive, collaborative Board, better able to support the growing number of projects that Province V has undertaken over the past several years. For example, the Board reviewed and discussed ongoing grant projects, such as the exciting progress of our Province V Campus Ministry Developer (Eric Richey), and the “Building an Inclusive Church” training that runs on-line May 9th. The Board also brainstormed ideas that might be incorporated within upcoming grant applications. Of course, the Board helped carry forward planning for this summer's Big Provincial Gathering in Kalamazoo, Michigan (see top of newsletter).
In terms of Province V governance, the Board reviewed By-Laws and Rules of Order, along with other matters that will be brought to the Synod of Province V for its consideration next year. One of the Executive Council members elected by the Province V Synod made a report about current plans and discussions taking place at the highest level of The Episcopal Church. The Board also made a concerted effort to optimize the distribution of responsibilities among our province's Elected Officials, Diocesan Representatives, Executive Council members, Network Participants, and the many other volunteers who contribute on a long-term basis to the growth and vibrancy of Province V. Finally, the Board recommitted to work prayerfully and diligently at its monthly Zoom meetings to discover new and diverse ways to “connect, support and collaborate” on projects and ministries within the 11 Episcopal Midwest dioceses, and beyond.
- Betty Bowersox, Diocesan Representative, Missouri
- Edward Lasseigne, Diocesan Representative, Southern Ohio

Care of Creation and Solar power… Lets talk about it
Should parishes consider solar energy? What benefits can it offer churches of all sizes, and how can it help reduce their carbon footprint and support environmental stewardship?
Come participate in our conversation about solar energy, with an emphasis on how nonprofits can address climate issues. Hear from Steve Mulder as he shares his knowledge and motivates organizations to adopt sustainable practices.
Steve Mulder is a retired insurance industry executive. Building on a lifelong passion for the Creation, since 2016, he has been the Michigan Regional Organizer for the Climate Witness Project. In this role, he helps congregations connect and engage in creation care in 4 areas: Energy Stewardship, Education, Worship, and Advocacy. His love and concern for his kids and grandchildren and our world’s most vulnerable drives his determination to mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis

Young Adult / Campus Ministry Conference
June 23-26, 2026
University of Denver
Beyond the Summit is a campus and young adult ministry conference co-sponsored by LuMin and the Gather Network. Together, we’ll explore what it means to encounter God beyond the mountaintop—in the ordinary, difficult, and overlooked places of young adulthood and campus ministry. Join keynote speaker Cole Arthur Riley as she invites us into practices of paying attention, honoring our embodied experiences of joy and grief, and discovering dignity in the work of descending well. Together, we will strive to find God not just in the highs, but in the diverse rhythms of daily life.
The Episcopal Church has negotiated a reduced rate for its YACM practitioners (lay or clergy) to be able to attend.
Contact Eric Richey with any questions.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
hosted by Episcopal Divinity School
May 5, 2026, 5 pm ET / 4 pm CT
Native American women in the United States are experiencing a crisis of violence and sexual abuse. They go missing by the thousands at rates considerably higher than those of any other race. This history can be traced back to the Doctrine of Discovery, the colonizing of Indigenous lands, and the perpetuation of policies that continue to support the perpetrators rather than protect Native women.
Join us in learning a bit more about MMIW and praying for those who were stolen, and those impacted, as we seek to end the violence. This event is co-sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona/The Council for Native American Ministry, Episcopal Divinity School (EDS), and The Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery.

The Jordan Project
The Jordan Project will ignite new life and innovation into women-led rural and small-town congregations. This project serves the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and warmly welcomes priests from The Episcopal Church. Pastors and leaders from their congregations will explore their congregations’ rapidly changing social and cultural contexts, gain clarity about their values and mission, and draw on Christian theological practices and traditions to adapt their ministry to the demands of their changing contexts. Pastors serving multi-point settings can decide how this project is launched in one or more congregations served. With this knowledge and the skills to engage, pastors and their congregational leaders will be prepared to lead thriving congregations that experience a renewal of anticipatory joy, an ethos of “Why not? Let’s give it a try!” and personal, communal, and public witness to the love of God found in Jesus that will thrill the heart again.
More information and registration. Registration is open until June 1
A companion program is also available for all genders: The Moses Project

Iconography Retreat
December 8-13, 2026
We are thrilled to invite you to join us at Bellwether Farm for an Iconography Retreat.
The art of making icons. An iconographer who aspires to make a theological statement may be said to “write” an icon. The term also refers to the whole history and tradition of the Christian use of icons. A number of conventions of iconography have been maintained, such as the frontal position, inverse perspective, and elongated and somber features. This is the style of iconography defended by the Seventh Ecumenical Council of 787. The term also refers to the entire planned scheme of pictorial representations in a church building. In this sense, it is possible to consider the iconography of a cathedral or a great chapel. (https://www.episcopalchurch.org/glossary/iconography/)
Led by Iconographer, Catherine Harrison and The Rev. Meghan Carlson of St James Episcopal Church in Wooster Ohio. Their pictures and bios.

Written for engaged and married couples—as well as the clergy who offer them spiritual and practical guidance—the book draws on the authors’ complementary perspectives: Grenz as an Episcopal priest and Glover as a former corporate executive. Together, they invite readers into honest, meaningful conversations about the foundations of a healthy partnership. New, inclusive material provides a discussion-based framework for topics such as extended family relationships, financial decision‑making, conflict resolution, and sexual intimacy, enriched by insights from the authors’ own marriage of more than thirty years.

The Fire Inside: The Dharma of James Baldwin & Audre Lorde
by Rima Vesely-Flad, PhD
Black, queer, feminist, Buddhist: The Fire Inside casts a fresh new light on the radical literary legacies of James Baldwin and Audre Lorde
Includes meditation exercises
The Fire Inside explores the writings of Audre Lorde and James Baldwin through a Dharmic lens, revealing for the first time how two of America’s greatest literary voices reflect—and expand—Buddhism’s most timeless truths toward justice and liberation.
Dr. Rima Vesely-Flad dives deeply into a dharma of liberation as lived by Baldwin and Lorde, offering timely lessons to help us each meet this moment. She explores the writers’ enduring legacies to show that liberation depends not only on organizing and mass movements, but the generative power of inner well-being, authenticity, art, and embodiment. Each chapter shares how looking inward is the way forward, examining Baldwin and Lorde through key Buddhist principles. Read more and order.
