Summary


As Tallahassee thaws from the rare winter storm bringing several inches of snow and ice to the region, the legislature prepares to convene January 27-31, 2025, for Interim Committee Week 3 and Special Session.


On Tuesday, January 28, the House Information Technology Budget & Policy Subcommittee will review legislative budget requests for IT projects, including the Early Steps Data System, which supports early childhood intervention services. Later that day, the House Human Services Subcommittee will provide an implementation briefing on HB 1267 (2024), focusing on economic self-sufficiency efforts led by the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Commerce, and CareerSource Florida, Inc.


On Wednesday, January 29, the House Health Care Budget Subcommittee will hold a panel discussion on mental health and substance abuse services, featuring representatives from the Department of Children and Families and the Agency for Health Care Administration. In the afternoon, the House Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee will discuss the implementation of HB 121 (2023), which addresses Florida Kidcare eligibility. The Agency for Health Care Administration and Florida Healthy Kids Corporation will present updates.

Governor DeSantis Appoints Attorney General Moody to the US Senate

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Marco Rubio following his confirmation as Secretary of State. Moody has served as Florida's Attorney General since 2019.


Senator Moody was sworn into office by Vice President Vance on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
