2025 Legislative Update

Summary

The legislature completed week 5 of 6 interim committee meetings, passing some health care bills out of committee. In addition to the regularly scheduled meetings, House and Senate leaders called for Special Session C to resolve concerns surrounding the immigration bill passed by the legislature during Special Session B. The Governor signed SB 2C and 4C into law on Thursday, February 13, 2025. 


Legislators continue filing legislation before the March 4, 2025, bill filing deadline. This week, the legislature filed several scope-of-practice bills, including autonomous practice for certified registered nurse anesthetists (SB 718) and psychiatric nurses (SB 758). To date, the FOMA is tracking a total of 137 healthcare-related bills.


The FOMA’s legislative team continues meeting with legislators and our legislative partners to prepare for the 2025 Legislative Session. Stay tuned for more updates as events unfold in Tallahassee.

Legislative Meeting Highlights

House Health Professions & Programs Subcommittee


The House Health Professions & Programs Subcommittee passed three bills this week: HB 21 Dental Therapy, HB 27 Social Work Licensure Interstate Compact, and HB 29 Pub. Rec. and Meetings/Social Work Licensure Interstate Compact. 

House Health & Human Services Committee


The House Health & Human Services Committee heard a briefing on the Managed Care Pilot Program for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities from the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), and Florida Community Care (FCC). The presentation covered the transition from the iBudget Waiver to a managed care model, pilot program enrollment updates, and the benefits provided.

The FOMA joins the Florida Legislature in mourning the passing of Senator Geraldine Thompson (Senate District 15, Orlando), a tremendous leader dedicated to serving her community and the people of Florida. She was a tireless advocate for her constituents and a passionate voice for education.
