Searching for a summer internship? Look no further! All FLEX alumni from any FLEX country and YES alumni from Southeast Europe and Senegal are eligible to apply to the Alumni Internship Program.
Funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and implemented by American Councils for International Education, this program connects highly motivated FLEX and YES program alumni with host organizations across the globe. Sixty alumni internship positions are available, including the opportunity to intern at an American Councils office. For more information, click here. Apply by April 15!

Kamilla Sultanova '00 (Uzbekistan)
In February, Kamilla Sultanova ’00 (Uzbekistan) won the My Speaker of the Year 2023 award in the Responsibility and Ethics category for her meaningful speech that encouraged inclusivity in the workplace. For the last four and a half years, Kamilla has been speaking, hosting, and consulting on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics. We congratulate Kamilla on her fantastic achievement!

Katy Syrovatkova '20 (Czech Republic)
Recently, Katy Syrovatkova '20 organized an architecture competition at her university in Brno, Czech Republic. There, various student-led architectural studios exhibited their building models, from which a professional committee selected winners. The committee members included Miron Mutyaba, a well-known architect from the British Zaha Hadid studio! Awesome work, Katy!

Rudolfs Krumins '21 (Latvia)
At the beginning of March, Rudolfs Krumins '21 represented Latvia as a Young Leader in the 10th Global Baku Forum, "The World of Today: Challenges and Hopes" in Azerbaijan, organized by Nizami Ganjavi International Center. Rudolfs participated in a panel, "Youth Speak, We Listen," where he discussed mental health. Great job, Rudolfs!

Alumnae Connect Nature and Mental Health to Engage Youth
Inspired by learning about mental health and the environment at the FLEX Alumni IDEAL workshop, Anastasija Dukic ’18, Lejla Visnjic ’18, and Marija Tomovic ’20 (Montenegro) decided to share their newfound knowledge and make an impact on their community. Knowing that children are next in line to build a better world, the alumnae reached out to an elementary school and implemented the project, “A Flower is a Friend.”

FLEX Alumna Builds Libraries and Lifelong Connections
During her FLEX exchange year, Purevdari Ganbat ’22 (Mongolia) eagerly worked to improve her English proficiency. Her devotion to learning English led her to find a way to share her passion for the language with Mongolian students in her hometown. Alongside her host mother, Carol, Purevdari implemented an ambitious project to help enthusiastic students in Mongolia.

A Romanian and Moldovan tradition, Martisor is an object made of intertwined red and white string worn to celebrate the beginning of spring. Thanks to the help of Daiana Olteanu '18 and Cristian Diaconu '17, alumni at the workshop learned how to make their own Martisor bracelets! The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program is a United States Department of State-sponsored program for secondary school students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. The program provides merit-based scholarships for students to travel to the United States, live with a host family, and attend a U.S. high school for a full academic year.
