Our CEO visits the State and National Capitals

Linda Braunschweiger, CEO of Housing Trust Fund Ventura County and Housing Land Trust Ventura County, has been active in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., recently as she joined other statewide and national leaders to advocate for critical policy priorities, including funding, a statewide housing bond measure, and equitable housing solutions.

During a May visit to Washington, D.C., while elected officials were on break, Linda met with staff members who were highly engaged and receptive to discussions about housing affordability.

Back in California, Linda attended the Housing California Annual Conference in March to discuss the future of affordable housing. In another trip, she met with State Assemblymembers Avelino Valencia, Blanca Rubio, and others to discuss challenges and solutions about funding affordable housing. Most recently, Linda joined statewide leaders to celebrate World Community Land Trust Day (May 16th) and Housing Land Trust Ventura County being recognized at the state capital.

$5,000,000 REAP Grant Secured

Housing Trust Fund VC and Housing Land Trust VC have been awarded a combined $5M from the Southern California Association of Governments’ (SCAG) as part of the California Department of Housing and Community Development's Regional Early Action Plan (REAP 2.0) grant cycle.

The new funding will contribute to Housing Trust Fund VC's Revolving Long-Term Loan Program for Infill Affordable Housing Developments, aimed at establishing a long-term loan program. This will increase our lending capacity by offering residual receipt loans that will extend 15-16 years. The grant will also provide $500,000 to our sister nonprofit, Housing Land Trust Ventura County, to create policies and procedures and support marketing, legal, and community outreach.

College Community Courts Breaks Ground

People's Self-Help Housing has broken ground at the site of the future College Community Courts multi-family housing community in Ventura, which was made possible in part through a special partnership with College Ministry Center United Methodist Church. Housing Trust Fund VC provided $1.5M predevelopment loan for this development.

Several Housing Trust Fund VC board members were in attendance at the ceremony held on May 28th to commemorate the development of 57 new units designated for low-income families and individuals, with 29 units specifically serving farmworker households. Resident-serving amenities will include a large community center, laundry facilities, computer lab, children’s space, management offices, and outdoor courtyards that will feature comfortable seating, children’s play structures, and barbeque areas.
