Join us to celebrate the 2022 winners of the Spirit of Housing Awards at Preservation Hall
The Spirit of Housing Awards recognize and reward individuals (staff, board members, and tenants), groups, and non-profits who have made an outstanding contribution to the quality of non-profit housing. The awards will be presented at the 10th Annual Building Partnerships Conference, September, 26 2022 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Preservation Hall Eatery. 2022 Building Partnerships Conference - Keynote Speakers
The upcoming Building Partnerships Conference will be held on September 26 and 27, and we are excited to welcome not one but two keynote speakers this year!

Dr. Marcia Anderson, MD, is giving a keynote address on the morning of September 26th. Throughout her career Dr. Anderson has advocated for a more robust curriculum in Indigenous health, and her keynote will address housing as a determinant of health. Dr. Anderson was recognized for her efforts as the public health lead for the Manitoba First Nations Pandemic Response Coordination Team, and was awarded the 2022 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.

Marie-Josée Houle, the first Federal Housing Advocate, is giving a keynote address on the afternoon of September 26th. Ms. Houle is an experienced leader who is recognized for her community activism, expertise in human rights, and extensive knowledge of the housing and homelessness system. Her diverse experience in the housing sector spans development consulting and project management for affordable housing developments, advocating for tenant rights at all three levels of government, and working with diverse partners to address human rights violations related to housing and homelessness.

MNPHA's Annual General Meeting is September 27, 12:45-1:45pm. It will be held over lunch at the conference, so if you plan to attend Building Partnerships, you will already be there! Manitoba Housing Seeks Applications for Affordable Housing Projects
Manitoba Housing is seeking applications from non-profit corporations and non-profit co-operative housing associations that plan to develop affordable housing projects for vulnerable populations with low to moderate-income in Manitoba.
Manitoba Housing’s Proposal Development Funding (PDF) program provides interest-free loans of up to $75,000 to help offset expenses incurred during the development of an affordable housing project proposal. A PDF loan can assist your organization to engage the professional services required to help bring your affordable housing proposal to the financing stage. PDF loans are repayable if a project secures a financing commitment but may be forgiven if the project does not advance to construction.

Winnipeg Foundation One-Time Community Grants open for applications, due October 3
Short-term community grants of up to $100,000 are available to support a wide range of projects in Winnipeg.
This grant program supports time-limited community projects, including:
- Capital and renovations
- Conferences and events
- Equipment and infrastructure
- Program operating
- Reports and planning
- Capital campaigns
- Short-term operating support
- Organizational development and capacity building

National Housing Strategy Research and Planning Fund open for proposals due September 16, 2022
This fund provides $750,000 annually to fund new and ongoing projects in 4 activity streams:
-
individual research projects: up to $100,000.
- programs of research: up to $250,000 for a program which can be distributed over 2 years
- planning activities: up to $50,000
- knowledge mobilization projects: up to $50,000
For all streams, you must provide a minimum of 25% (cash and/or in-kind contributions) of the total project cost.

Member Profile: Ukrainian Families Welcomed to Seniors Building After Board Motion Passes Unanimously
Earlier this summer C.O.F. Haven, a client of SAM Management, passed a board motion to support up to 25 Ukrainian Families at one of their properties. The motion was to make an exception that would allow Ukrainian families to be housed in what is typically a seniors complex. Volunteers from the Board as well as building residents helped SAM staff coordinate suite viewings and move ins for refugees.

Manitoba Government Launches 45-Day Consultation Period on New Disability Support
The Manitoba government has released a draft of the new Disability Support Regulation, which defines key features of a new income support program for persons with severe and prolonged disabilities. The related proposed amendments to the Assistance Regulation and the draft of the Disability Support Regulation have been released online and will be open for public consultation for 45 days.
The draft regulations were developed following two rounds of public engagement, consultation with key community stakeholders and the feedback of a dedicated Community Advisory Committee. The Disability Support Regulation contains important information about the benefits available to clients of the new program and the amendments to the Assistance Regulation include the introduction of a new supportive planning incentive for people facing medical barriers to employment.
