Disaster Preparedness Survey

Kane County seeks input to update emergency

preparedness plans

Are you prepared for the next disaster? Let the County know! Kane County residents and businesses can help the county update its emergency preparedness plans by participating in a voluntary online questionnaire. Feedback from the confidential 10-minute survey will enable the Kane County Office of Emergency Management to better serve residents and businesses before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.

The survey will remain open until September 30, 2023.

Kane County Recycling Event

The Fall Shred and More event will be held at the Kane County Circuit Clerk's Office

Kane County’s last “shred and more” recycling event of 2023 is coming up at the end of this month, Sept. 30th, at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. A range of recycling services will be offered including:

  • Free confidential document shredding for Kane County residents - please see this page for info and tips on how to prepare
  • Free recycling of clothing, textiles, and small home goods, toys & home decor items
  • Fee-based recycling of spray paint and other aerosols, small compressed gas containers and child car seats
  • Fee-based recycling of latex-based paint and coatings

In the event of weather hazards, including lightning in the area, the event may be closed temporarily or cancelled as safety dictates. Generally speaking, rain without strong wind or lightning will not close our events.

Call for Projects

IDOT will be accepting applications for the Illinois Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) beginning August 1, 2023, through October 2, 2023. New this year, for Cycle 2023, SRTS will be 100% funded and will require no local match. The program is funded with 80% from the Transportation Alternative Set-Aside under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and the 20% match will be funded by Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). Applications are due October 2nd, 2023, by 4:30PM.

This announcement was shared courtesy of the Kane Kendall Council of Mayors. Check out the latest newsletter for additional community funding opportunities.

For additional information and to apply, visit the Illinois Safe Routes to School Program webpage.

Green Infrastructure Funding

Illinois EPA offers green infrastructure grants for best management practices

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's (IEPA) Green Infrastructure Grant Opportunities Program funds projects to build green infrastructure that prevents, eliminates, or reduces water quality impairments by decreasing stormwater runoff into Illinois' rivers, streams, and lakes.

Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, October 18th.

Projects that implement treatment trains (multiple BMPs in a series) and/or multiple BMPs within the same watershed may be more effective and efficient than a single large green infrastructure BMP.

Visit the IEPA program page for complete details.
