TRENDING NEWS

Introducing the IEC Technical Specification TS 62818-1: Fiber Reinforced Composite Cores for Overhead Line Conductors

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) recently published IEC Technical Specification TS 62818-1: Conductors for Overhead Lines – Fiber Reinforced Composite Core Used as Supporting Member Material – Part 1: Polymeric Matrix Composite Cores.

This specification standardizes testing methods for fiber reinforced composite (FRC) cores, which are increasingly utilized in overhead line conductors due to their enhanced strength, lightness, and environmental resistance. While both IEC TS 62818-1 and ASTM B987-20 address FRC core testing, key differences include the lack of defined strength grades in IEC TS 62818-1, a more flexible approach to testing criteria, and a focus on aging tests using the Arrhenius methodology for long-term durability predictions.

The Role of CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductors in Modernizing the Electric Grid

The urgency to modernize the electric grid is escalating as electricity demand is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, driven by factors such as the electrification of transportation, expanding manufacturing, and the rise of data centers. This surge in demand requires an expanded and more resilient transmission network to ensure efficient and reliable power delivery.

CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor offers an innovative solution to enhance transmission capacity without the need for major infrastructure upgrades. By utilizing a composite core material with higher strength-to-weight ratios, ACCC® Conductors can support more current over longer distances, alleviating grid congestion and improving power delivery.

Enhancing Grid Resilience with the ACCC InfoCore® System and Smart Asset Management for Transmission Lines

As the global energy landscape evolves, utilities face increasing challenges in grid resilience and operational efficiency due to aging infrastructure, renewable energy integration, growing energy demand, and the rise of data centers. The ACCC InfoCore® System, developed by CTC Global, offers a transformative solution to enhance grid reliability and mitigate installation risks.
